I sell two different setups.

Setup #1 - $125 shipped

This is a very compact setup.
Designed to control 1 device.
Basically it is horizontal.

This is designed for to control multiple device but not at the same time. You can only control 1 item at a time. This unit has a plug so you can leave your probe in one device and have another probe in another.

It will take the standard thermocouple with plug that Auber sells.
It will have a mounted outlet for thermocouple connection.
It will come with 2 4 inch thermocouples with plugs.
This is a special order unit and will take additional time to build.

Now the specs on the units

- Multi voltage - They are designed to be worldwide. They ship setup with US 120v connectors. If you want to run something other then 120v then you cut the plugs and install the correct ones.
- 15 amp rated - They have a 25 amp SSR but the wiring is limited to 15 amps as most standard 120v outlets are rated for 15 amps
- 500c rated - The probes unless specified differently are rated to 500C (900F)
- 4 inch probe length - The standard length is 4 inches. Longer lengths are available but will have to be special ordered and cost more.
- Standard no BS warranty - In the event that you have a issue, please contact me. Failures do happen rarely but I have always taken care of the issue. Please be reasonable and don't expect me to warranty a item that is a couple years old or that has been mistreated. No, I will not replace the PID controller because you spilled hot lead on it. Yes that has been asked.

So, if I'm understanding this correctly one puts the temperature probe into the pot, plugs the pot into little black box and the black box into the power outlet and the box controls the pot temperature?

Just out of curiosity, and at risk of asking a question that might be like asking you to nail Jello to a wall... do you have any thoughts on optimal position for the thermocouple sensor inside bottom pour pots? Logic would suggest (or at least I think) that the optimal position would be beside the spout orifice, where the PID is obtaining temperature information from the alloy right before it exists the pot to fill the mould.

Or is this just over complicating setup and use?

Your just overthinking this.

I am sure that there are hot spots in every furnace. Basically closest to the heating elements.
The optimal placement of the probe is somewhere that keeps it from touching the sides or the bottom yet still keeps the last inch of the probe in the melt.

Generally speaking the melted lead is the same temp throughout.
Yes I suppose that if you had a swimming pool size furnace you could have thermals (basically layers) in which the temp was different but if you place the tip of the probe within the the last 1/4 inch of the melt then it shouldn’t matter how big the pot is as that layer should be all the same temp.

You also must turn the temp. control on the pot to its highest setting.

I used a piece of plumbers strap (holey metal strip) to offset the probe about a half inch from the back of the pot and use the support post nut to attach it to the the Seaco pot I use. You can bend the strap to adjust the height or how far it sets from the side.

That works, was interested in the written information on the P.I.D. but I can get by with the video which I had no idea existed. The one I built had a different P.I.D. and I can't find that either. Thanks.

I just bought the type 1 controller and it is great. Was at my house in days. The craftsmanship was up to par with any factory. Thank you wish all my internet purchases were like this

What voltage??

120v pulls 13 amps
240v pulls 6.5

Typically if it plugs into a standard 120v outlet then my PID will have no issues handling it.
It is rated 15 amps@120v by design.
But it has a 25 amp SSR
The amp limit is the power cord which is rated 15 mps
