On 20 September, 1965 SSG Larry Pierce sacrificed his life to save myself and other of his fellow soldiers near Ben Cat, Republic of South Viet Nam. He was awarded the MOH posthumously. Also wounded in action that day was Alfred Rascon who would also earn the MOH six months later.

R.I.P. SSG Pierce.......

SSG Larry Pierce was from Taft, CA IIRC, I remember his passing even though I was only 11 at the time. Taft was not far from my childhood home of Bakersfield & I read all the local paper everyday. Now I don't even use it for lining Bird Cages, or think much of the local MSM either. Anyway, sorry for the sidetrack. Thank you for your service to this Great Nation and for honoring SSG Larry Pierce.

Thanks for posting this Larry.

There are so many that gave all and no-one other than family and close friends will remember them, or even knew what they did.

Someone shoots up a school -- front page news,

Someone gives his life for his country/fellow soldiers and nary a word is said.

Thank you Larry . . . may God bless and watch over all of you. Not only those who paid the supreme sacrifice, but those who live with the memories each day. This country will forever be in your debt. The years may have passed by, but the memory of those lost should never fade.

I talked with Al this morning. We reminisced about SSG Pierce and the events 52 years ago today. I also told him I was still holding a grudge he ripped open my pant leg as the rip was from the crotch to below the knee.......thank goodness for the safety pins on bandoliers........

These men are my heroes, not these black activist that show their ignorance by sitting during playing of the national anthem, the NFL and others seem to condone this action is the reason I don't watch professional games any more, they can go to hell in a handbasket for this reason.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
