Jamaica is the last place I saw real Cuban cigars with pretty decent pricing. Once you add in the plane tickets, though, they get up there in price.

Haven't had a "good" Cuban cigar in a long time. All the genuine masters of the craft left Cuba years ago and are now doing business out of the DR, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua using Cuban-seed tobaccos. Might be some good smokes available in Havana but what's on the export market is pretty mediocre.

Speaking of which, I've got a couple of guns to clean and there's a bundle of Montecristo Robustos (Dominican) that have been mellowing in the humidor for about a month...:lol:

You can buy Vidalia onions that are not grown in that small area in Georgia, but they are not as sweet. It's the soil. Same with Bermuda onions.

It's the same with tobacco. It may be the same seed, but it is not the soil and conditions.

I tried cigars, but never really liked them. However, I do enjoy my pipes. Some tobaccos are only grown in certain areas for a reason. Periques and Latakias are two good examples where conditions have to be exact. JMHO.

But if it fits, go with it.

I have tried the Cubans, the Dominicans, Nicaraguans, and Hondurans. At this time I think the hype about Cuban cigars is over rated.

Cuban tobacco is no where near as good as it used to be. The soil has been ruined by over use and the cigars just aren't anything special any more. Get a Nicaraguan stogie, they are about as close to old Cuban quality you can find any more.

I just got in some Durango's that I had ordered through Brennan's in St Louis, MO. These are Dominican pipe tobacco cigars. They are lovely!

The last 10 years before I quit smoking, I smoked nothing but cigars. Pencil cigars on a daily basis and then for a fine cigar after hunting or out fishing my go to choice was Fuente Opus X(I liked the Perfection and the Robusto).

After Castro went crazy in Cuba and we shut off trade with him in the mid 1900`s, I soon learned the benefit of living fairly close to Canada for an occasional `road trip` there thru Port Huron till I quit smoking all together in the late 1970`s.Robert
