I will be receiving my Marlin 336 back from JES soon and was wondering what boolit would be the best for the 38-55 Win round for deer.
I'm sure that some here have some experience with this cartridge and are willing to share what they know.

I use a 250 grain RNFP that I pour from an Accurate 38-450D mold that drops at .381. I size to .379 and they shoot very well in my 336 Cowboy.

What's the twist on your re-bored barrel? A 1-18 is probably going to 'like' something between 250 and 300 grs. My Cimarron Highwall (1-18) will print, consistently, under two MOA with a 275 (old Saeco mold) or a 305 (NEI modified by Buckshot) but goes completely off the rails with anything heavier.

Lyman 375449 and the Lee 379-250. I used both these in and NEF 38-55. killed several deer with the Lyman boolit. You can load that Marlin to push this boolit to 1700 FPS and stay well within it's pressure limits. Very accurate, very deadly, lots of fun. The Lee mold is a great plinker boolit.

The Lyman 375449 bullet has been a mainstay in my Marlin 1893 for the last 45 years. It has filled the freezer many, many times and also filled a wall with trophies from 200 and 300 yard Lever Gun Silhouette matches.

You can also get a clone of the Lyman 375449 from the ( N.O.E. Bullet Moulds wesite ) (http://noebulletmolds.com/NV/product_info.php?cPath=52_231&products_id=2260)

Hope this helps.

Don't know about best boolit, but my JES rebore really likes the Lee 38-250 and Accurate 38-250B. Sized .377 with either PC or Winds Wonder Wax(similar to Emmerts lube), it does all I can ask of it. I ordered the Accurate mold plain based since I wanted to use it under 1600 fps. 10 gr Universal gives me a great plinking round at around 1220fps, 21 gr 4198 w/dacron goes around 1370, and 32 gr 3031 goes 1600 in this 20" barrel. That 4198 load has taken a doe for me with more penetration than you'd believe for such a mild round. Wouldn't be afraid of taking on elk with either of the faster loads.
