I have 2 Ohaus 314 On my bench with a 315 and a dial O gram. I found out in speaking with Ohaus in New Jersey . all M 314's were made individually . and no 2 are alike . Do you know is your box original. As far as I know only the Model 315 was a Portable and had a wooden box
Yours does not have the Pan support weight. . They calibrate individually. . This was one of there best machines.

I don't know if the box is original or not. It does not have any markings on it. But it fits perfectly.

Mine zeroes fine, but takes forever for the beam to settle. Are yours the same way? It would be maddening to use to weigh each powder charge.

I found this at Goodwill.

I also have two RCBS 304 Dial-O-Grain scales. They are nothing short of fabulous.

Your I noticed has The Dial. This was the last improvement before the Dial O Grain came in in the 1960"s. I do not have this model . Mine is late 50's -60. To answer the question, Yes Mine does take a long Time to balance due to the fact there are no magnet to slow the beam. With practice and a good Tricker you can slow it Down.
You have to remember These were before digital or Magnets. You just had to practice. . I weigh each charge To slow it down with the tricker. weigh a charge .5 grain Under.
Place the pan on the support , Once it starts to swing , start Trickling . This will stop the beam then It will slowly approach O. It is not fullproof but seems to work

The dial you see is on a 304 scale that is located in the background. I should have removed it before shooting the picture.

That is a nice scale. I have wanted one of those Ohaus scales for a while, but I have no place to store one at the moment.
