I found a 5 lb spool of this at a yard sale. There are no other markings that I could see. Anyone know what it might be? It is approx. 3/16 - 1/4 " in diameter. Just wondering if it would be good in bullit metal.

Thanks,
Vince

If it's like my two spools, it's soft rosin core solder that will work for black powder as is or add Lino to harden the alloy.

Uncle Grinch,

Does it have any tin in it or is it pure lead?

Spools were probably 50-50 solder.

I have seen some solders that were 5% tin. or 20-1.
if there is a number like 421-3455-B on top of the roll you might be able to track that down and find out the mixture.

It could be about anything. As mentioned the number on the spool will always serve to track down the mixture. Several things are always available on a spool one of which is the diameter and the other is the mix which most of the time is spelled out like 93-7 or 60-40.
