I think I may have found the perfect 147gr. FP for all my 9mm carbines and pistols. It has a long taper, can be seated out to 1.145", has enough of a meplat for my use. Now I just have to save up money for the mold which is kind of expensive. Does anyone make a copy of the magma that is cheaper. Wish I had found this bullet prior to wasting my money on the NOE 155gr.(ELCO) that was a total waste.

2 cavity Magma mold = $96
2 cavity Aluminum Accurate mold = $89.5 for 1.8" $94 for 2.35"

Granted the Magma is iron and the Accurate is aluminum but iron wasn't specified. And Accurate will make any design you want for the same price and will still get it to you within his specified time frame, currently 2 weeks.

If I'm wrong please educate me but those prices are off both websites.

Why no love for the ELCO mold?

Why no love for the ELCO mold?

In wondering the same thing. It shoots lights out for me as well as many others. This is the first disparaging comment I've heard about the mold.

Magma molds are very good, I have several. Accurate will also make iron molds just more expensive, but Tom will make what you want, not just what is in the catalogue, plus you can get a 3cav alum for a couple $$$ more than the 2cav iron. So 33% more production for like $10, worth it.

The only C.O.A.L. that will fit all my guns is 1.08" and thats back too far. I have had a very different experience than I have read about its no better than the lyman 356637 which I really dont like.

Shingle, what guns are loading them for? Are the leads really that short in your barrels?

Glocks are fine, camp carbine is fine, AR 9 not good at all leads are very short. These are the guns I shoot the most and the 155 elco stays hung up.

It might be cheaper to have Douguy here on the forum ream the chamber for you. He set that lead back a little. This would allow you to use all the molds you have purchased to date. Haven't heard one bad thing about him on the forum. Contact him if you'd like to find out more, at the very least prices for his work for a cost analysis vs buying a new mold.

I have this mold in 147 grain magma. I love magma molds and this is a good one to buy. They are a little exspensive but we'll worth it. I have 8 molds from magma and love them all. I'm looking to buy more in the near future.

No such thing as too short OAL if it runs in your gun. Just adjust the powder charge accordingly.
