Second attempt in 8 months to fuse my Ankle. Hope this one takes! I have some interesting "footwear" I will be sporting for the next 3 months.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170802/523dccc1d327ee96d0f73783ab7afb9e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170802/ec064c403c3c67fe1686d2fe47dc1644.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170802/eb4016bde7f0bd9ddd21c7667ec8e8ad.jpg

did you check into an ankle replacement? I had my choice of a fusion or replacement last year. I had the replacement. I have a bit of soreness still but its NOTHING Like before and I can actually walk farther then down the street and back.

Interested in this thread. I'm getting buy on cortisone shots in my left ankle for the time being. I'm going to hold out as long as I can but doctor's are steering more towards fusion rather than replacement.

Had My right ankle fused 6 years ago . The replacements were not so good then and the ankle was pretty well shot so opted for fusion . Have never regretted the decision . No pain now .

I gave a disease that caused my Ankle to collapse. Replacement is not an option. If this fusion doesn't take the next option is amputation.

What the doctor did for me to help me make up my mind was to but a brace on that basically mimicked a fusion and told me to wear it for two weeks. that was enough to convince me that God intended that ankle to be able to move. I'm sure youd adapt and get use to it but my replacement works just like the one God gave me. Cant beat that.

Boaz, if I might ask, how far can you walk in your fused ankle? My wife has tendon surgery last year, still pain, doc talked fusion when she recently went back. I'm not convinced best option.

Reddirt62 If you want the fusion to have any chance of working, keep ALL weight off that foot, I mean all until the sawbones says differently. I've seen them fuse crooked and that's no fun.
Wishing you patience, pain pills and a good outcome.

Thanks Jim but @ surgery #7 on this foot I am old hat at the nwb game. One of the counterintuitive aspects of a ring fixator is you can bear weight immediately after surgery, all be it I have been greatly restricted in this. Being a mechanic this thing greatly intrigues me.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170811/19036bb382c9702683d4c2230ee18f3a.jpg

That does not look like any fun at all. Wish you well and good luck.

I had plastic surgery on my left ankle from a botched cyst removal. The original surgeon didn't or couldn't leave enough flesh to close the wound, and it refused to heal. Had to war about the same sort of paraphenalia that you're sporting for about a month or so, and it's amazing how that affects your ability to get about. When I left the fixing surgery, I went to bass pro, and got one of their motored scooters, and had the best time I was destined to have for the next month! But thankfully, the 2nd surgery worked, and I've been "normal" ever since. Here's hoping your surgery goes as well as mine did!

At 60 years old I am trying to bear my worn out left ankle for as long as possible. It seems like replacements have really improved, but they still don't last for a long time. I have no cartilage left and had an arthroscopic clean out five years ago. I have a neighbor that had a replacement last year, but he is close to 70. Good luck to all with damaged joints.

My ankle fusion was not near as complicated as yours . Pretty much classic , stereotypical results which were good . The confinement and not being able to walk nearly drove me nuts , was worse than the surgery itself . I'm glad the doc's think your healing and hope your recovery is quick . It's hard but the results are worth it . Just a mention but the 'knee crutch' or 'knee scooter' is the way to get around after surgery . You can get them off EBAY or AMAZON reasonable .
