Primary Arms is selling a polymer power for $28.88 plus USPS flat rate shipping. Had to order one. Now to figure out what caliber to build, already have 5.56 & 300BO.

just about none of these plastic lowers survive, they all seem to break off between the trigger and buffer tube. good luck with it.

No, just a 22,. Nothing higher caliber than that! Especially a 9mm, too much alterations needed and are wasted on a cheap plastic lower. Why? When for an extra 10 to 20 bucks more get a good aluminum.

Gosh reminiscent of polymer handguns will never work........

Gosh reminiscent of polymer handguns will never work........One major difference, there's no crossways torque on a Glock lower. The buffer tube puts a lot of leverage on the rear, which caused a couple cokpanies to begin adding a metal part there to reinforce. Built right they're not bad, but certainly more susceptible to failure than a polymer handgun frame.

Ive got a couple of polymer lowers and upwards of a couple thousand rounds through each with no apparent wear. The Primary ones have metal inserts.

Never said they wouldn't work, but the question is why? When there are perfectly good aluminum lowers for the same money. Plastic is ok, but just ok.

most of them seem to fail like this. im sure someday someone will get it worked out so they are not prone to cracking, but at this point this seem to be hit or miss.

Good news is if it fails it is warranted for life.

I reject your plastic lower and substitute aluminum.

I guess a .22lr would be the best option. Makes a good practice gun for cheaper.

Many do fail .. Sometimes people forget its plastic and mortar a rd out .. Deadly for these lowers
Seen a few broken because the castle nut was way overtightened and staked then next owner tries to remove castle nut without supporting the weak spot
seen a couple from too much recoil
an aluminum lower does not suffer these issues and is now only a few $ more

I've had a polymer lower for years and haven't had any issues with it. I've used it with my 6.8 SPC, 300 BO and now my 22 Nosler which also has a polymer upper. There really isn't any stress from these calibers. I wouldn't use it with any of the large caliber uppers but for the ones I use it with it's fine. I've got many thousands of rounds through it without any issues. I did not over tighten the castle nut as that picture obviously shows and I do not pogo stick it as I treat my weapons properly... I would agree, for some people using polymer anything is a bad idea.

I agree. I will use them on the smaller stuff but the 458 Socom, 450 Bushmaster etc not so much I think

Doesn't do you any good if they are out of business.

Yes there was just a sale at Palmetto State I think it was that had blemished ones for $39? Short of a one day sale your not getting a billet lower for the price of a polymer. I've used them on 2 guns for some time with no problem and as said the only drawback is they are very light. I wouldn't use them for hard hitting stuff like 458 Socom but for 223 I don't see the problem and if your building a pistol carbine they are fantastic imho

Brownells: Noreen billet lower; $40

http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/receiver-parts/receivers/lower-receivers/ar-15-stripped-billet-lower-receiver-prod94264.aspx

I bought a couple of polymer lowers *before* I knew about the weakness. I would NEVER have bought them knowing that sooner or later they will bust.
