Hey guys, new to the group. I just started casting 223 and will be powder coating them. I'm using imr 4064 as my powder for loading but can't seem to find load data on it for a 55 grain cast bullet. Anybody have any load data?

In the one manual at my fingertips, IMR 4064 appears for jacketed, but not for cast, and I suspect 4064 may be too fast. These are the choices from the Lyman 48th Ed. (shown below) for two 55gr. cast bullets

In general, most shooting with cast is done with very slow or very fast powders. They middle speeds work very well in powders where the jacketed and cast speeds fun very close together. IME, 223 is not that cartridge.

My 223 gets fed Unique with cast 55 grain boolits. It seems to be a good combination to me.

It works good with 45 grain too.

I stay at the lower end of the data shown above on the left.

My bolt gun likes 10.5 a2400 under the lee 55 grain. Average of 2240fps for 10 rounds. ~1 1/4 " groups at 100 yards. 4064 ia too slow unless you are trying to operate the bolt in an AR. YMMV

My CZ 527 (223 Rem) shoots 'lights out' with 5.8 grains of HP-38 under a 58 grain cast bullet (gas-checked). I get slightly over 1700 fps. The bullet I use is a Lyman 225646. I get less than 1 MOA with a peep sight with this load.

You can find links to many online free load data sites for cast bullets here

I match jacketed accuracy from a 55 gr fmj to my NOE 225-55 @62 gr with H322 I do however give up about 500 fps for the twist from the 222s 1-12 @24" to 16" 1-8 AR for the same bullet with comparable load levels . It also gives up 900 fps to a sister loaded with jacketed bullets .
It operates the action same as the jackets do .

I've read that the PC just makes it easier .

Knight,
Welcome to the forum.

Runfiverun gave you the best answer to your question...but I will add, If you are embarking on loading cast in 223/556 for the AR-15, type "AR cast" into the google custom search and you will find lots of answers to questions you haven't thought of asking yet.
Good luck.

PS, I like H4895 with 60gr boolits in 223/556 loads for my 1:9 twist AR-15 clone.

If you are going to load for a AR, look into Lymans reloading manual specifically for the AR ( looks like a thick magazine). Data for most of the AR calibers along with a good selection of cast bullets that will get it to function. I have a couple AR's running Cast bullets ( 63-65 Grainers) using AA 2230. smokes a lot but works the action. I really like the "Elvis" 223 mold from Arsenal. Good bullet profile for feeding from a magazine.
