Gun Remington 700 VL
Cal 22-250
Boolit Lyman 225646 cast of pure lino lubed with LAR45's red stuff.
Cases Plain ol Winchester.
Range 50 yards, only 5 shot groups

Loads....

22 grains AV 2082 ES 159 SD 61 3/4" group

24 grains AV 2372 ES 183 SD 73 1 7/16" group

26 grains AV 2595 ES 57 SD 24 7/16" group

28 grains AV 2812 ES 166 SD 70 1 5/8" group

30 grains AV 3120 ES 178 SD 66 4 1/2" goup

32 grains AV 3252 ES 74 SD 33 MOP group.....Minute of paper, boolits were tipping. Nice Keyholes all over the paper.

As you can see the sweet spot is around 26 grains. My previous pet load was 18 grains fo SR4759 with an av of 2684. Gotta try 26.5, 27 and 27.5.

Kinda cool the lyman book shows 31 grains for a starting load at 3100 fps for a 60 grain jack*ted.

I've been thinking. ES and SD went down at 32 grains. Maybe another sweet spot. I am going to heat treat a few boolits, hit them with a coat of liquid ear wax after conventional sizing and lubing and see what happens.

I could have bought 8 lbs of 4759, wish I did now. That stuff costs as much as a pound but comes in 8 oz cans at the gunshop.

Girlfriend says I'm obsessed. I agree and she doesn't mind. She says I could spend my time in a lot worse ways. (whatta woman)

Just havin fun

Your girl prolly just wants you obsessed with her more..

Hey- what's Lar's Red lube recipe or is it an ancient chinese secrete?

1) My girl is the best. She never tells me how to spend my time or money. I always make time for her.

2) LAR 45 lube is 50/50 plus carnuba wax. I love it. Its a great price and awesome lube. Just hard enough that in the summer I don't need a lube heater. When its cold out, I warm up the luber with my propane torch. Bought 15 sticks last time.

Did it again today except at 100 yards and 10 shot groups.

25 grains surp 4895 AV 2391 ES 119 SD 37 Group Size 2.8"

26 grains surp 4895 AV 2515 ES 55 SD 16 Group Size 1.1"

27 grains surp 4895 AV 2585 ES 54 SD 18 Group Size 2.6"

26 grains is sure the sweet spot.

These were just boolits, not weighed. Only visiual inspection. Lubed with LAR45's red stuff. I love it.

David- I'm totally in love with 4895 now. I got me some more of the same lot I first bought. It is perfoming like gangbusters in everything I've tried yet.

My Howa .223 was doing well with RL-7 and 50gr bullets, but would not shoot 55 grainers worth a damn. The 4895 not only performed as well with the 50's, it was making 55's touch at 100 yrds! [smilie=w:

I like hearing these things about 4895. I just got my 8 LB'er in and am headed that direction with it.

I went through an 8 lb'er of surplus BLC-2 and it did pretty darn good but everyone seems to be put of it now so I went with the 4895.

4895 and 4064 are the two powders I've always had the best luck with. With gas guns the 4064 always won out at long ranges in .30 cal. I will be trying both with 165 gc bullets that are with WQ WW this weekend. Just as a sidenote always had best performance with 4064 and Rem primers.

Has anyone tried cast bullets in a gas gun. Don't know if you could get up enough velocity and gas pressure to operate the rifle without leading.
