I have a old Lyman mold that I use to cast .69 caliber minie balls with. I was using them for a .69 caliber pistol and musket that are both smoothbore. But using them in my 12 gauge shotgun should not be a problem. I just never thought of it until now.

Comparing the 750 grain minie ball to a .45-70 cartridge and bullet.

Here is a pile of 1 oz. Lee key drive slugs from my 12 ga. Lee mold. I will load these into some Winchester AA silver super lite hulls which is the only hull I use for slugs due to the ease of knowing what is in them since I only use the silver hulls for slugs. I am looking at using either a Remington or a Federal hull for my Lyman sabot slugs when I start casting them as soon as I get my new stand from Magma.

Here is a pic of a couple of Lyman 525 slugs I cast. So far, I have only loaded one, and have not fired it. Picked WSF powder from the Lyman instruction sheet. Picked solely because I already had the other components.

Yes Jon, if you look at the small kitchen pot at upper part of the table you can just see the ladle sticking out of it.

When I get the new hand mould capable base from Magma I will transfer the pot on top of my cast master machine to the new stand and be able to pour a higher quanity of lead to fill the large moulds without losing temp during the pour. And since the time it will take to re-setup the pot between the hand casting base and the cast master base I will make the slug casting sessions long for maximum production before switching the pot back to the cast master.

I got this. Mold belongs to an older gentleman who made it, but has difficulties to cast due to his age. Huge alu mold. Had to increase my furnace temp to 415C / 780F and preheat mold really really well. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170715/e179a06e31101b96d0696b164a732dd4.jpg

Home made Brenneke slugs from my home made mold, and sporting a home made handle (I didn't make that)
The wads are injection molded in a (you guessed it) home made injection mold and attached to the slug with a small screw.

I was wondering how soon before it would happen. These guys are so unreliable. Maybe you can get a flash drive set up and then copy all the images still at PB on to it and a least save the images. Can't tell you how many redundant image files I have across 5 or 6 computers and flash drives along with external hard drives but so glad I'm a image hoarder.

I am not able to download anything from PB with paying their extortion. I'm working on a 'work-a-round', using Google images. I can see my images (one at a time) in a google search, but it's time consuming. I figured that out, when looking for a specific photo, of course I am unable to find that one ...so I haven't attempt to download them via Google, just yet.

Well, the project took two and a half year. You can read about my trials and tribulations here, but, alas! No pictures, thanks to PhotoBucket <SPIT>:

I don't know about you all, but I give a thumbs up to that slug of land cruiser in Hot tamers carport.. looks like he Powder coated it as well... :drinks:

Which wad you have in those .678g RB loads.. I see they are loaded with chedite hulls and looks to be magnum primers over 38g steel? Also nice looking hog leg you shoot them with.

Wise man once said, any file you don't have 3 copies of, is a file you don't care about.

ETA: Not to be construed to suggest that PB is not a car full of clowns for doing this to folks, cause they are.

I like the idea, did they shoot very well? I have a greener martini police gun in 12 ga that I was thinking of loading with round balls but the mini balls look interesting. The idea was to have sort of a smokeless powder mustektoon when I don't have time for cleaning up after shooting bp.

I noticed that the 678 roundball isn't in the new lee catalogue.. it goes from 600 to 690 now, does anyone know any more about this??? I was wanting to get a 678, because I heard the 690 shears petals...
