Hey guys,

My dad asked me tonight if there was anyway to cast boolits for a 50 BMG. I told him I had no idea, but I would ask. So, is there anyway to do it? Anyone know anything about it?

Greg, the only web site for cast boolit moulds that big that I am aware of is NEI. Try a web search for cast bullet molds and you should get lucky. Think they moved all of the late walt melanders stuff to someplace in texas. Hope this helps, Frank

Check Mountain Molds .... His design program easily comes up with a 50 caliber bullet.

I load cast in my 500 A-Square,both 500gr Lyman and a 725gr GC design I got from NEI. the 500A2 is a blown out 460 Weatherby case and the energy is 88% of the bmg with 1/2 the powder consumed.
I bought a bunch of 647gr AP bmg bullets on ebay a while back and they shoot just dandy. I size to .512 and the last buy on gator checks supplied me with a ample supply of GC's.
Pretty fun to set off a charge that delivers 8 tons of energy at the muzzle too.

I cast for the .50 BMG.

I'm using an NEI mold that casts a 850 grain gaschecked bullet that is a semi spitzer design. It cost me 100 bucks on Ebay and was brand new.

I manufactured a .512 lube and size die that fits in my RCBS lubrizer that I lube with Rooster Red hot lube.

One thing about it, the lead in the pot sure drains fast when casting 850 grain bullets.

Try Jim Allison and CBE in Australia. He makes a .50 BMG mould.

Oh wow, 975gr! I have been sending dad the info as I get it. He found a single shot 50 BMG used for under 1k, I want to know where I am when these things are for sale!

Is that round similar to the SSK Industries' .50 Peacekeeper?

Very similar, maybe a slight shoulder difference but for all intents and purposes they are ballistic twins. The Peacekeeper,500 A-Square and 510 Wells all are very friendly to the need to stick with common reloading equipment I wanted to stay with,IE: 7/8-14 Dies, standard reloading press, primers and such.

Reloading for the 50 BMG requires a much larger press, very costly dies, very costly primers and all related sundries. And burning 240grs of powder compared to 110 and up. It's all fun when you can tweek a standard action such as a 1917 or P-14 Enfield to reach right up to the 50 BMG with CB's. I have all the power I need and more.

AFAIK, the .50 Peacekeeper is nothing more than the .500 Asquare throated to accept .50BMG length bullets.
