Some of you may of seen my post on problems with my new Sig Sauer 1911 Target 45. It was leading with anything I fed it. No feeding problems or anything like that, just heavy leading. 30 rounds would leave it nearly a smooth bore. After trying several different approaches with no luck, I sent the barrel to Doug for his throating package. Once he received it, he immediately sent me a message that the throat was eccentric to the bore by quite a bit. Turns out the chamber was off as well. Since the chamber was both small dia. and short, he was able to recut the chamber and clean out the throat.
I got the barrel in the mail this afternoon and put it to work 1st thing.
I shot a clip full of 200gr swc, pc'd loaded at about 900fps, and pulled the barrel for cleaning. There was some leading, but nothing like before. Cleaned it, and shot another clip full, this time with the same bullet, lubed with Bens Red and loaded with Green Dot at 5.3 gr.. Pulled the barrel and this time there was only a few "sparkles". Put it back together and shot up several loads I had prepared. 4.1gr Red Dot with Bens Red, 5.3 gr Green Dot with Lithi-Bee, 6.0 Universal with PC, 7.0 800X with Bens Red and rolled in BLL. All together about 87 rounds. When I pulled the barrel at the end, it looked good just looking through it. A couple tight patches of Ed's Red showed some sparkles, but no large chunks. Inspection under a strong light shining at an angle to the bore showed a couple light patches of lead in one groove. It probably didn't need it but I hit it with a brush and chore girl strands. A couple more tight patches of Ed's Red and it was spotless.
This thing is night and day better than it was new. I'd like to publicly thank Doug for his efforts and knowledge. He made a shooter out of this gun.
Thank You Doug

You are too kind sir..

To be a Sig, and a Target model at that, If I didn't know beforehand that I could get this barrel to behave, I would have suggested the gun be returned to address a defective barrel. This one was pretty wonky with the chamber and the throat both being eccentric to the bore. How they pulled this one off is beyond me. Must have been a Monday gun.. It's fixed now, and will only get better as it gets shot in.

Luck would have it they short chambered the barrel at .899" and the end of the chamber was really tight at .476" which doesn't leave much wiggle room and makes crimping quite the chore. I was able to get a real snug pilot in the bore which forced the reamer to cut concentric to the bore and recut the chamber to .903" and it gained about half a thou on the mouth, at .4765" but it straightened it out good enough that all but a tiny eyebrow of the old throat was cut out, what was left is not enough to affect feeding, accuracy, or cause leading.
