My daughter who some of you or know of will be 13 tomorrow! It seems I just blinked, just brought her home from the hospital, just had a 3 day battle with the dog because she was sure she would sleep on the shelf under the bassinet where the diapers would go! The dog won that battle;it was all years ago! It was last week the first time we we went on a picnic in the woods wasn't it? It was just the other day I was the secret story teller for a first grade class, just a few weeks ago when we said our prayers together the first time; last month when she got her first deer with my old Winchester, last summer our first primitive camping trip?
No it was 13 years ago! How? She got a special gift from me but what she doesn't know is that this weekend the billboard at the local party store will have a special birthday message from me to her! And she doesn't yet know about the bucket o bullets,Remington 22s that I got for her to take on our camping trip next week!

My youngest was born Christmas day, it seems like several years ago, in 1987.
Good parents, I've been told, raise their children to be independent, self reliant, and responsible. And when they are and fly like quail, it breaks your heart to see them go. And it happens way too fast and way too soon.

You're daughter is just a couple months older than mine. I've been feeling much the same way. Here is this young lady, who's looking much too grown up. Where did my little girl go?!? She's really a good kid and we're proud of her.

Enjoy and appreciate every day. As my wife says, "The days are long but the years are short."

Everyone says that girls are harder to raise than boys, but I brought up three girls, all grown women now, and never found it to be a problem. I taught them all to shoot, and when I go home to visit, that is usually one of the things we do together.

Wish the Young Lady Happy Birthday from all of us. They do grow up fast but I'll bet she will always be Daddy's Girl! We're into Grandchildren now and they grow up fast too!

Remiel, don't dread it, cherish it. Its all part of the process. Make the most of it while you can, they will be grown before you know it.

My eldest is over 51 and the younger is 49. You fellows are enjoying your best years. Make all the memories you can while the opportunity exist.
Getting old is both a blessing and a curse. The difference is what you did with your children and grandchildren.

Thanks for reminding me ........ My oldest granddaughter came to live with me 8 yr ago at Christmas coming . She's 10 now , I've barely got a head and shoulders on her . I ordered her a 223 LH Savage yesterday and a standard for her little sister who's 8 . In October I'll be marring off my oldest daughter . Seems like just a week or so ago she got outta HS she turned 30 in January which means her older brother is 32 next week .

Where does it go indeed ?

I've been told that when you have a teenage son, you have to worry about one boy. When you have a teenage daughter, you have to worry about all the boys.

Right up until the first boy comes to the door ,
" Hello sir , I'm Alex . It is a pleasure to meet you . Melisa will be he home by 10 . I've been versed on the 45 and the shovel and how that works ."
Then you know you've done all right and it's going to be ok .

My wife when she was alive made it even easier when the young gentleman started coming over. She made a display of my medals and plauqes from shooting NRA high power right by the front door. "Yes Son that's a gold medal for placing in the 1000yd iron sight matches at the Bob Wright state match." LOL.

Yesterday was our 10yr Anniversary. We kinda looked at each other with a "really, how did that happen"? look. An ex-girlfriend of mines daughter whom I remember taking to grade school turned 30. Jeez, time does fly and doesn't seem possible.

Well, my son's now 45 and .... it really seems like just yesterday that he finally became a teenager! So keep them close, spend as much time with them as you can, doing good, beneficial things that keep their minds active and their spirits and confidence up, and .... tomorrow, you'll find they're grown and giving you grandkids! It's amazing how swiftly time passes, and most especially with our children. What a true miracle they are!

Very nice summary, and congratulations to both of you. Also, thanks for the "heads up" on what to expect. Any day now our youngest daughter will deliver our first grandson to us. We already have a granddaughter by our oldest daughter but there will be no more from her. She titled her only delivery "one and DONE."
