Lyman .450 Hollow Based In 45acp

Has anybody used the Lyman hollow based boolit meant for the 44 Remington cap and ball revolver in 45 ACP or Auto Rim?? My mold with pure or as close to pure lead as I can get drops pretty close to .450. I cast a few with a brew of wheel weights and a little tin solder and the base measured .456. Anybody tried this??

I "beagled" some up once so they'd size at least .451" and gave them a try. They worked all right but were lighter than I like to shoot in the .45s. It works but as I have many more moulds for the .45 that are heavier and cast the correct size and weights that I like, I didn't repeat the experiment except that I can now say that I did and it works./beagle

didn't remington do a kinda hollow base for their 45's?? they may still....
if it is easy to do i have shot boolits as light as 160 gr in my 45 colt it was like a 38.

The Remington .45 Colt lead factory load uses a 250-ish grain boolit with a hollow base. Seems like it measures around .455-456", IIRC. They shoot pretty well in most revolvers. That boolit is at least periodically available as a component.

The old Remington Targetmaster 185 grainers in .45 ACP were HB for a while. Haven't shot any in many moons since I discovered cast. Think some of the commercial .45 Colt stuff is still 250 grain HB./beagle

I've used the Ideal 450229 and the 45468 with pretty decent results in my father's 1911. Both of them are hollow base. As I recall, there were very occasional feed glitches with the latter. The gun isn't exactly a target pistol even with jacketed bullets; anyway, I was more concerned with feeding and reliability.
