I reloaded some 25-20 last night and shot them today. Much different sound/feel that the Remington 86 gr factory bullets. I cast some 65 gr with gc's. Used 5 gr of Unique. Starting gr in the book was 4.5 to 6.0 max. They were much louder than the factory loads. No difference in kick or anything like that. They just seamed to have that crack to them. Is there a better choice of powders for the 65gn cast boolit? I sort of like the quiet report of those factory rounds.

11 grains 4227 works in a little savage bolt action with the 65 gr GC - you might wanna work your way up to that in a 92

With the Lyman 257420 gc 65gr. bullet I used 12-13 gr 4198 for years in my old Marlin 1894.Chronographed at just over 2000fps in the 24" barrel. 4198 has been the best in this rifle for bullets up to 88 gr. Currently using a plain base powder coated, 88 gr. with my alloy, NOE 260283 with 9 gr. 4198 at around 1400-1450fps.

I did notice that my primers bulged out a little from that load of Unique..

I didn't see what rifle you were shooting those 25/20 loads in Steve. Older rifles have a larger firing pin hole than newer rifles and will show protrusion into the FP hole even at fairly mild pressures. This is always the case between my older Savage 23b and a newer Marlin 1894CL. The Savage will usually show that bulge while the Marlin, even with higher pressure loads, does not.

My grandkids' favorite is the 25/20 which I load with 3.5 grains Unique pushing the 70 grain Arsenal bullet (very similar to Lyman 257420). This is a gc bullet but for the kid load I leave off the check. This load runs around 1550 fps and is very pleasant to shoot from my model 92s; it won't have any where near the "crack" your 5 grain (1900 fps?) load would have. I've been powder coating this bullet but it shoots quite well in this application with tumble-lube.
