Although I have been casting for what seems like forever I have never dealt with gas checks. Now got GB 30 165 and 6000 gators to play with. K11 and No4 MK 2.
I see lyman list a gas check seating widget. Do I need one?
Am using two RCBS lubesizers BTW.
Thanks,

I have one but can't really say I use it. If the gas checks are a little snug I flare them then size them on.
Your group buy sil mould might be a shade too skinny for the No4 MkII. Mine likes .314 best in its brand new barrel.

I use a .060" feeler gauge across the opening of the sizer as a base to seat the checks. Then I push the bullet into the sizer/lube die. This works quicker than describing it. I get some crooked checks if I try to seat them as I lube the bullets. I can run a whole bunch of checks and then Lube/size them at will.

I use mine for all GC seating, it works pretty good.

Jeff,

Can you use your gas check seater to seat seat the home grown checks? also does it size the boolit in any way? I need to find away that I can seat my gas checks with out resizing my 30 cal boolits. I hate to lap out my sizing die from 309 to 310 or 311. I have too many 30 cals that actually slug 307-308. My 30-30 is 309 and so is my sizing die. If I could seat my gas checks with out sizing I may be able to shrink my groups.

Best Wishes from the Boer Ranch,

Joe

The Lyman device is simply a stop that keeps the boolit from fully entering the die. It is perfect for what you want.

Thanks Wayne, that is exactly the information that I needed. Now I will go build one for my Lee sizer. Should be simple enough.

Thanks for your input guys. For the few dollars it costs I will get one to try. I am just about to order a few saeco moulds so it seems daft to not get one in the order.

Tony
