Any one try this boolit in a 30-30?? Bought a mold to try. Mine drops just under .313. I sized my dummy rounds at .311. They chamber and engrave the nose. There is plenty of room as they don't seat near as deep as the 311041 or the 311291. I borrowed a 311291 last week and will return it today. They drop a good bit larger than the 311041.

T tweaked the alloy but still cannot get the 311041 to drop larger than barely .310 at the parting lines.
This is for a 30-30 single shot Handy-Rifle.

In your single shot where cartridge OAL is not critical for feeding from the magazine it should work well. One of my favorite powders for this application is IMR4227 in the 15 to 16 grain range.
Good Luck,
Rick

Have you tried powder coating that 311041?

It will bump up the size to just where you want it.

Once upon a time, loaded that boolit for my Savage 340: old notebook says 20.5 gr AA5744 with boolit seated just deep enough to feed from magazine. From my notes, it looks like that was a pretty decent load but I don't use it anymore 'cause, during the "Great Ammo Drought", I couldn't find AA5744 anywhere. Now, I use the Lyman 311466 (155 gr. Lovell) over 22.0 gr. of IMR4198...1 1/2"-2" groups (scoped) at 100 yds. Both boolits sized to .310 for that rifle.

I shot it in a 1949 325 Savage just short enough for the box mag with Unique and H322 .......now I'm not sure where the 322 data came from .......
Both shot very well but I didn't find much that didn't in that rifle . 1000 fps or 2100 fps 1.5" or less but with 5 of 10 either inside the hole or thrown away (I believe I could have done that , thrown them away that is) the Unique was a better load than 10 separate holes 322 .

There are indications your bullet should shoot well. Do let us know with a follow up.

Not Yet. I'm aware of the process, but just to many things on the plate right now. On my bucket list.

I will follow it up. No data for the boolit so I'm going to use the data for the 170 gr. 311291 and adjust.

I shoot that bullet very successfully. I size .311 and gas check. Bad luck without gas check. I tumble lube it 3X in Ben's liquid lube and shoot in a Handi and Marlin over 8 grs. Red dot. No leading, good accuracy.

Of course, I single load the marlin.

I use the C.E. Harris design Lee C312-155-2R with great success in any .30 cal rifle from 7.62x39 to .30-'06, also similar HM2-312-160-5. In H&R .30-30 Handi Rifle it has been most accurate full charge load with 30 grs. of IMR4064. Good deeer killer!

I use it in my Savage 340 30-30 without the GC and 8 grs of Steel(finally found a way to use it up!)Herco, etc. Stays under 2"@100 and runs about 1300 fps. Works great as a plinker for me.

Loaded up 10 rounds. 17.5 4227. Out of so it'll have to wait. Lubed and checked, 160 grs.

I have used this bullet in 30-30, 308, 30-06, 303 Brit and 303 sav. I find this boolit shoots very well in all of them. My 6 cav mold drops at .3135 and that works for me in the Brit when sized in 314 die. Sized .312 works in all my other 30 cals. Good Boolit! Good fun.

Is there a preference among responders here for this bullet over the CTL312-160-2R, Lee's tumblelube version? If so, why do you prefer the 155 with its conventional lube groove. Thanks.

I have a Star for sizing and lubing, and they go threw it like water threw a screen.

Drop boolit into die, place check on shank pull handle, place boolit in die place check on shank pull handle. Takes longer to read the last sentence than it does to do it.
