I have the early edition of Pet Loads by Ken Waters. The 38-55 is featured in May 1976. For anyone who has all the updates to date, is there a 38-55 update available? And if so, what issue of Handloader did it appear in? Thanks...BCB

I think mine is the most recent edition and there is only the 1976 article on the 38/55.

johnly,

Thanks...I know that there were many updates for various cartridges, so I figured there might be one for the 38-55. But appearently, Ken didn't figure it was necessary or that the cartridge was popular enough to devote time to more data...
Thanks again...BCB

Though by a lesser author than Ken Waters, there is an article on cast bullet .38-55 loads in HANDLOADER #210 (April-May 2001).

In addition to the Waters 1976 article, I've used the March-April 1988 one by Mike Venturino, and the January-February 1979 one by Ken waters on the .375 Winchester for 38-55 data. Both my best cast bullet light-moderate load and full power load for my Browning 1885 came from the .375 data.

Not for long range, but @ 100-yards, 10-11 grains of Red Dot is a sure winner! I can reload a box of (20) for < $3 per box. How can you beat that? That means LOTS of range time :) !

Pet Load

38-55 case with 5.5 of Trail Boss and a 380 rb seated in the mouth of the case and smeared with lube. Almost silent and great on cats!
