OK... Somthing for the Californians...

I was just reading up on dropping bismuth/tin shot (http://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y180/MrMisanthrope/Bismuth%20Shot/), and 95/5 Bi/Sn melts well and drops to 94% density of Lead/antimony of the same hardness.

Yes, at $6.50/lb its pricy ($7.50/lb 95/5), but would it cast?

According to what I have read Bismuuth vapors are even more dangerous than lead. I do know that I have been warned several times about overheating Bismuth.

OK... so the vapors are annoying but not an unsolvable problem... but will a Bi/Sn alloy fill out a mould?

If it will, then at least there is an option (cast outdoors) other than Barnes or custom turned Brass/Copper...

(Anybody know where I can get a coil-fed CNC screw machine?)

Bismuth-tin-cadmium alloys are used for chamber casts. Bet you can cast a nice sharp boolit.

And get past the CA "lead laws" without resorting to $3ea Barnes Specials...

they will cast fine
but bismuth has a problem of being brittle the 5% tin helps but you will have to test, test, test.
that is the main reason the shotshells went to, tin- iron- nickle -tungsten....or tungstin..matrix
now if heavy-shot will cast.
there is a smaller but heavier option for ya.

CA doesn't have any rules about using depleted uranium, does it?
