Today, 25 April, is commemorated in Australia, New Zealand and several Pacific Island countries to honour those who served and died in all wars and conflicts and who gave their lives in the defense of country and freedom .
Dawn parades and dawn services across both nations are heavily attended, business are closed and it is a national holiday .

Anzac Day is one of the most important national occasions of both Australia and New Zealand and came about due to the huge loss of life during the Gallipoli landings in 1915 of the first world war.
I have family somewhere scattered amongst the dead and not recovered at Chanuk Bair.

I was in Wellington NZ last year and while there, I went to the Te Papa museum. They have a Gallipoli exhibit telling the story of the battle through the New Zealander's eyes. Each display is 2.4 times human size. Impressive and humbling......Australia and NZ will never forget their sacrifices.
