I was out tending my hives yesterday and heard this swarm noise overhead. At first I thought it was one of my hives swarming. I chased it for a while but lost them. Made a entry in my note book that #1 hive swarmed. A couple hours later I looked in #1 to see the damage. Everything was normal. I guess some one east of me had a swarm and they were just passing through.

HOLY MOLY!! That's awesome...and a bit frightening (only to me haha). A lot of people don't realize it but bees are part of the lifeblood of our food crops and the hive issues lately are worrisome. Thanks for helping the cause!!

I split 1 of my hives into 3 hives a couple of weeks ago to keep them from swarming... Bee's are fascinating, and a great hobby.

Wish I could do that but one single bee sting would send me to the hospital.
Gotta stick to buying honey from our local apiarist.

Nice swarm! The removal I got called on was 6' down into a 30" tree trunk. I gave up after a few weeks...

One thing I do not do is cutouts....in 30+ years I have only done one and that was enough!! 😊

I only do cutouts to help friends out. I can start a nuc in a few minutes and in 30 days have a laying queen( usually ).

Neighbor north of me inherited house and 16 acres south of me. He is clearing the land for hay fields. Right in the middle is a big bee tree. He wants the tree gone but doesn't want to disturb the bees. He wants me to help catch the bees and put them in hives in his yard. I told him he could't do that. He has to take them at least 2 miles away or they would return to the same location whether the the tree was still there or not. After a few weeks he could bring them back to his place and they would stay there. He already has some old hives stored in his barn. This has been going on for more than a year now and he is still trying to decide what to do. To tell the truth I'm a little Leary of cutting into that tree myself. I'm thinking about building one of those vacuum systems to pull the bees into another box.

The Wife and I made 40 nucs up this year for swarm control and to build back up to the 100 We want. By making nucs at the right time swarming can be cut to almost zero.

You 'need' a bee vac anyway...[emoji1303]
