does any one cast for the 7.62x39? I've been trying to get an fairly accurate load for over a year now, but I think I've finally make it. i'm using the Lee 311-155 gr. bullet and now i"ve started powder coating them. I am getting a 165gr lead bullet. I finally started using 20. gr. s of 4198 and went to 20.2 gr.s. these are clocking real close to 2,300fps on my crony. but they are pretty accurate. (and yes, they kick some) yes, they are gas checked. I tried some without the GC and I didn't hit the paper target at 25 yards . I'm using a palmetto upper on an AR.. . and with jacketed bullets it's pretty accurate(under an inch at 100 yards with a .310 bullet and about 1 1/2 inch with .308 bullets (bullets weighting about 123 grains) I really like the powdered coated bullets Thanks Smoke!

193256I cast a ~163gr. C.E. Harris designed CB for my Type 56 SKS. I asked Al (Swede) Nelson to cut the 4 cav. mold large enough so that I could size it to .3165" to suit the rifle's bore. Thus far accuracy from the "as issued" SKS has been excellent. (The NOE I just referred to is on the right. The other is a Lee Precision .324" design for the 8 x 57mm Mau. radically resized to .3165".)

The powder I use is IMR 4198, usually 16.0, 16.5, and 17.0gr.

no , you have a small barrel, I shoot .314's out of mine and they work great. my bore is .3125-.313, and I use the lee 312-155 and the 312-185. for the 185 I use 16.5 of rel 7 and I cant remember how much 4198 but it was somewhere around 15-17.

I use the Lee 312-155-2R sized .311 in my mini 30. I powder coat it and run it over 22.7 grains of R7, It runs a little over 1900 FPS in the Rugers 16" barrel. It'll shoot 3 rounds in an 1 1/4 at 100 yards and I was able to take 2 deer with it last season. 1 at 100+ yards and 1 at 75, both with 1 shot. I do like that 7.62X39!

I shoot the lee 312-160tl and the lee 312-185 with either 4198, and or RL7.

I'm a little lost, what gave you the better accuracy? Powder coating? Increasing your powder amount? Or using H4198 or IMR4198?

My 7.62x39 is a Charles Daly Mini Mauser actually made by Zastava, the same basic gun was imported by Interarms and Remington as the Model 799. I mainly use cast in it for plinking with various .32 pistol boolits sized to .313" with a charge of 3.0 grains of Green Dot.

For some reason I never have tried heavier boolits through it.

That's why it's a good idea to slug your bbl. and throat before selecting a CB mold/design and "size to" diameter.

yeah, he may very well be right(whoever told you that) but its a good idea to slug the barrel just in case. he may be going off of what he was told! lol

I have gotten excellent luck with the NOE 129 grain boolit sized to .311, gas checked and powder coated over Accurate Arms 1680 out of my CZ 527M/CSR out to 200 yards. Fun cartridge to reload, but the LOOKS I can get when people find out what round it actually is...well, that's half the fun. The other half is outshooting the Tactical Tommys' with the $5000 ARs and massive optics with a little bolt action carbine with iron sights. :p I'm not going for Olympic accuracy, just enough to ring steel and perhaps drop a Wile E. Coyote....;)

It's the only 10 round CZ-527 magazine in existence that I know of - member LAGS here built it for me, along with the one of a kind stock with spare mag in the butt. They both function flawlessly.
