Just got a Cimarron 1871 Colt in 44 Colt/ 44 Russian and would like. Some ideas on what weight bullets ya all recommend. I've been casting round balls for years and decided to move up to cartridges the rounds that came with the gun are 200gr flat nosed 44 Russian ment for cowboy action shootin and when I get them used up I'll probably reload with BP
Thanks

this should work just fine.
an alloy of 40-1 would do well with the black powder.

That bullet looks like it'd work in my .44 Specials too...

Thanks for the reply, I have a large supply of almost pure lead and was wandering if that would work, there is also a place that has 50/50 lead and tin bars available I guess I'll have to sweeten my pot a bit.

The bullet you show is almost identical to my factory loads so I guess I'll go mold shopping Do

if it is intended for light duty smokeless use only I'd want a smaller lube groove and a touch more base band length..
as a dual role or black powder only type the big lube boolits are a lot simpler to keep around.

I know I started this thread a while ago but decided to update, I ordered a Lee 429-214-SWC mold and am using a 4.5gn load of titegroup under it. This combo is a nice somewhat light load and is very accurate at 20 yards. I know the SWC is not period correct but I do like the way it shoots!

WOW,
You just discovered the same load I've been shooting in my replica Russian for 15years. Except I use the old. 429-214-1R

I've got some Russian brass, good to know I won't have to change anything.☺
