I'm looking to cast 224 for my AR. It is a 16" carbine gas 1:9" upper. I'm not looking for bullseye accuracy, just looking to ring some steel out to 300 yards and punch some holes in paper. I will be PC the boolits with no GC. Just looking for some recommendations for a mould that feeds reliably in an AR. Also, the more cavities in the mould, the better.

I have never shot one past 200 but I do ring steel with the lee 225-55rf at that range in my ar. Powder coated no check.

I have the NOE version of the 225-55rf in a 5 cavity and it performs well in all 1-0 to 1-14 twist barrels I have in various calibers. I size them threw .2265 dies in either a 450 or my Star.

I thinks LEE offers a clone in the 6 cavity blocks that has been doing the same.

Here is an offering from Arsenal if your powder coating, I have several molds from Arsenal and they have all performed perfectly.

Is the NOE mould the same as the Lee mould?

It was originally an RCBS design, cloned first by NOE and then again by Lee. So yeah, basically.

Which alloy are y'all using for your PC version?

I'm gonna be using straight range lead, once I get some. Lol

I have read in these forums about people having issues with the Lee 55gr 224 mould feeding reliably in an AR. I guess it has to do with the design of the nose of the boolit. Is anyone having these issues? I would hate to buy the mould and find out that it will not feed correctly.

Given the relative cost of .223 ammo, many folks don't see the point in even reloading the stuff, let alone casting for it. I shoot my AR at about the pace of a bolt gun, and I like downloading so it works for me. YMMV.

Can't speak to the Lee. Like I said, the NOE's a gem.

im planning on reloading.223. If I pick up brass (free) and cast my own bullets(almost free) all I'm left paying for is primers .02-3 and powder.02-3 I'm looking at rounds in the four to six cents apiece range. Last Tullah rounds cost .30 cents each. That's seems like a significant savings. Am I missing something?? Pluss I get to play around with a molten batch of toxic metal and gunpowder. Right there is enough to hook me. Lifes too short to not risk making it shorter.
