Talking to a guy at work about casting last week ,came in yesterday ,got something for you .his diving belt with about 20 lbs of lead weights on it .hasn't used them in 25 years what a nice guy .just goes to show you never know when someone will be kind to you.

Melted a few myself from a neighbor a few weeks ago, they were completely dry ( out in the NC sun ), popped and fizzed a little but no tinsel fairy. I also recommend a cold pot. I knew what could happen as was prepared. But still, things do happen.

I will use a cold pot but they have been unused for 30 years ,hope I find no zinc .cheers

Before I melt scrap that is (at least to some extent) "unknown", I pour a little Muriatic acid on the surface. If it "fizzes" I have Zinc, if no "fizz" I'm good to go. I sometimes use the acid to test suspect WW as well.

when I was truck driving, we was always helping people, from hitch-hikers to somebody stranded on the side of the road. big trucks, little cars, it didn't matter because you never know when you might be the one needing help. I am a true believer in Karma, it works.
