I have been casting and using Saeco's #454 (058, .452-inch 300-grain SWC-GC) bullet. I want to try out a (wide flat nose) 300-325 grain tangential ogive or truncated cone point gas check bullet whose crimp groove has the same relationship to nose length as Saeco's. What I refer to is that Saeco's bullet, when crimped in crimp groove into 45 Colt case, yields an overall cartridge length of 1.600 inches ± .005. The cartridge fits beautifully in my Freedom Arms Model 97s chambered for 45 Colt.

Because I want to try such bullets, I have no interest in buying molds before I've finished bullet's try-out. My solution to the trial series is to use bullet designs that are available from commercial casters. If I like a particular design, it will be a pleasure to buy its mold. I mention a bullet weight range because casters use lead:tin:antimony mixes they prefer.
