I'm building a .458x2 American out of an Savage 110.
Twist is going to be 1:10
17.7 inch barrel
Fully integrated silencer all the way back to the barrel nut and 8 inch in front of the muzzle.
Subsonic hunting with 570 grain Leigh defense controlled fracturing bullets.
I'll also be using some cast pure led (1:20 tin) HP 750 to 620 grain depending on base design.
I´m having real trouble finding a decent powder in QuickLoad that will burn 100% and not produce a pressure above 20000 psi which I believe is about the max chamber pressure for this type of soft alloy.

How high pressure calculated by QuickLoad have you managed to use successfully in .458 rifles with similar very soft alloys.

Is there a standard design of 458x2 throat? It makes it difficult to plan optimal COL when that is an unknown.

just out of curiosity, why not 458 socom.........

I own a 458x2 american that I built ( http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?257962-458x2-american-rifle-build ), and as much as I love the round as a modern 45-70, I am building a 458 socom on a 93 mauser action for subsonic work.

The case capacities are better for heavy subsonics with available powders and I can readily get components (brass) for this round.

Sounds like a fun project.

Have you looked at 2400?
Just guessing on dimensions, a 650gn cast bullet 1.58" long with .6" nose loaded to 2.6"
16gns of 2400 should give 1008fps at 25kpsi, load density of 57%. It shows 100% powder burnt and a muzzle pressure of 1767psi.

Is the 100% powder burnt a must have? Is there a concern about having unburnt powder granules collecting in the suppressor?

What cast HP bullets are you going to use? I am starting to play with a .458 wildcat and am looking for a good HP mold.

What happened to: Theres next to no data for this i might just have to load and test myself?

Nowadays it's: I dont know jack and cant be nothered, so tell me the answer.

Asking for help from someone with prior experience of the subject matter is a good approach and might keep a person away from mistakes. It's what threads are made of.
Best, Thomas.

I run a 660 grain in 45-70 subsonic through a 12 inch barreled Ruger number 3.. But i also use Aussie powder ADI AR2207, If its available in the USA, i can give you some of my load data 193354
