These pictures and the narrative are making me feel even older. I have many of them and some are still full, with prices that astound me today.
My large paper tube of green dot has a $13.79 price, for 8 lbs. There are four W 296 full cans marked $3.77.
So far they're all still just like new.

That's funny, I do just the opposite. When the round plastic cans started showing up, I started saving all my metal IMR cans and transferred the new powder into them. The rectangular metal ones take up less space in the powder cupboard.

I prefer the square ones. They pack better into square boxes than the round plastic jars. For some reason, I don't have the heart to toss them out, either, while the round jars, filled with water, make great plinking targets.

The Elephant and Swiss cans are not all that old, but definitely in the realm of "gone but not forgotten."

The subtle (or not) differences in the labels of cans of the same powder will no doubt excite the "serious collectors" of the future to no end.

At one time that Elephant was my go to Holy Black. AND that AL7 in 1962 was what I used to make those 1&3/8 oz baby mag shells, and they would kill ducks a ways away. Still have a couple oz of that AL7 in the powder magazine. 10

Funny you should mention dipping out of kegs and in to paper bags...................I am just NOW finishing off a pound of Green Dot from 1975 that was in a brown paper bag, dipped out of an 8 pound keg. I have decided to start using up my oldest stuff first, and pulled this out, the paper sack was falling apart, and it was all in a ziploc bag. I had to strain all the paper fragments out, strange what we can find in these times of scarcity.................shoots just fine with Winchester primers with a 70 cent price tag!

A lot of the powders like the entire Hercules line are the same or very close to the same recipe made today. Discontinued powders can be much harder to locate data for. Powders like HiVel #2 sometimes posted load data on the back of cans but most paper labels get damaged and data gets lost. Luckily many of the good people here go through a lot of work to save this info. Old reloading manuals and pamphlets are always a start but one of the best places to look for data would be here from experienced loaders. I'll post some more tins when I get back in. I'm on the east coast right now.
