Reboring by JES

If one were to rebore a .30-06 to .35 Whelen, what would be the benefit to 3 groove verses four or five groove? He offers either, just don't now why one would be better than the other????

Rich from the reading I have done there is no big difference between them.

I suspect the 3 groove is easier to do on his end, which is why he discounts the price a little.

In every case where I have read of someone getting a rifle rebored by JES where they choose the 3 groove they were more than satisfied with performance and accuracy afterwords. Actually more like thrilled and excited.

I may be going that way myself one of these days. I have an Pre 64 Win 94 .30-30 with a shot out tapered barrel. Either of the options JES offers would work better by far than what I have
Just trying to stack the dollars up is a little tough on a tight budget. I just have not wanted it badly enough yet. Soon time to get off the pot I think.

Guess I'll call him and talk to him about it, but sounds like the three grooves shoots fine for everybody who's tried it.

I'm one of the 3 grooves thrilled Ghosthawk refers to. It's more accurate as a .358 than it was as a .243! I don't know or care if the 4 or 5 groove is better. Jump in guys.

The less grooves the wiser the lands and the wider the lands the more metal so there fore the bore will last longer......that's the conventional wisdom

I have 6 JES rebored rifles and ALL of them are extremely accurate. Great work, Quick turn around and good price!

It's hard to measure a 3groove slug. Now there's a negative! Only one I can come up with though, haha.

In the automotive world more splines are stronger than less, that's probably why I had JES put five groves in the 356 rebore he did for me.

As far as accuracy I find no difference between 3 or 4 or 5 groove. He seems to know what he is doing and you do not have to wait 5 months to get the work unwrapped and started. Right now is his slow time. Sent a rifled action in a couple years back in March and had it back in our hands 13 days after sending. Come June things get a week to three weeks slowed up.
