I have two sons that I need to explain how to develop a good load for there pistols.We shoot 9mm,38 special.357mag,40cal,45acp guns, Have a large selection of different powders and molds . Where an what is the best way to start.

I'm sure more experienced folks will chime in, I'd start with the larger, less pressure, slower moving bullets. They are less apt to leading. 9mm has been posted about numerous times for leading. Then I would go with a mold that I find published data from a manual , not an internet posting, with powder I had on hand. And safety first, Personal protective equipment, and instill in them that pistols are small volume cases and tiny powder weight changes have huge impacts compared to rifles.
Have Fun ! My two boys are interested in reloading, but enjoy shooting much more, I'll bet when they have to pay for their range shooting, reloading will become more important !

make up some 45 acp.
use the fastest powder you got and the slowest you have for the round.
make them the same velocity.
let them shoot them.

ask them about the felt recoil and such.
this should get them thinking and asking you questions.
once you get that line of communication flowing it's easier to explain the work-ups from there.
