I just placed an order for an NEI double cavity aluminum mold: 358-220-GC in one cavity and 358-232-GC in the other. Has anyone else purchased molds from NEI since the death of its founder? The mold was only 80 bucks... I hope I didn't piss my money away.

You didn't. I've gotten several since then and had no problems with either the company or the molds.

C.Walter Melander("Walt'),deceased 10/3/02..often considered as the founder of NEI moulds..But my memory is that he actually purchased the firm from the originators...fwiw, Onceabull

Yeah it was Northeast Industrial Inc. located in El Paso, Texas if my memory is correct. I think I may have a catalog dating to 1984 or 85. But I don't know who the originators were... and this may be a bunch of horse feathers because I didn't go to the filing cabinet to check will try to do so later.....Wes

I was in on a NEI GB here a while ago and that was a good mould, I think I remember some people had issues on that or another GB but NEI put it right with no grief.

There were some issues, most notably the oversized gas check shanks on a group buy. NEI corrected all the moulds to my knowledge. I did not have the priviledge to test moulds like blammer did, but I can say my 311284 came out pretty darn close to spec. YMMV

Thanks for the bit of encouragement. Why wouldn't I think NEI was started by Melander? It says so in the first sentence on their website:

Maybe the catch is that Walt changed the name to NEI "Handtools" and therefore he is the inventor??

MJ... I have 6 NEI molds...4 by Walt and 2 by his daugther and her husband in El Paso(9.3's,. 410's and one .458)...I cast mostly with straight WW and all the molds throw heavier boolits than is marked on the mold and catalog...Anywhere from 7grs in a 9.3 to 35grs in a .410"...I watched Walt make my .458 mold that I thought was going to weigh 350grs as that was listed in his catalog...when he was done making the mold he casted a couple of boolits from it to check it out and I asked him what he used for alloy...He said linotype...when I got be home from my trip and casted some boolits out of WW they weighed 374grs....So if weight is important to you I would make sure they know it and that they know your alloy...I do like their molds and will no doubt order some more in the future...:)

Another +1 for the current series of NEI moulds. I have examples of both, and all are the best tools of their type that I have ever used.

The only self-ordered NEI mould here is their 421-390 for the .404 Jeffery. In MY .404, it's as-cast diameter of .421 works just fine. The groove diameter is around .4185". In .404 rifles with the "standard" .423 diameter, I have little doubt that it would be undersize. However, the mould is listed as .421" and by golly, that is exactly what it delivers.

Using my WW alloy, the weight is 398 grains, and that much difference from the listed 390 grains is utterly meaningless.

I have several other NEI moulds here, mostly from Ebay sellers, and all are highly satisfactory. You will be a happy customer, I'm sure.
