Hey guys, I am looking for load data for the lee c309-200r for my .308 win. I am powder coating the bullets with harbor freight red and sizing to .309.

The Lee 308-200 is a bore-rider and you may find that PC'd boolits won't chamber in your .308 without sizing down the nose to .300-.301 after coating...at least, that's been my experience in a McGowan-barreled M700 and my K-31 (7.5x55).

311284 or 299 data will work.
check the nose diameter like mentioned.
some use a nose sizing die to make stuff like this work.

I am getting a measurement of 301 on the nose, They chamber fine; I have loaded a handful with 12 grn of unique and some with 9grn of trailboss. Does that load data sound about right? I do not have any 2400 or I would of tried some of that.

sounds reasonable.

I must be doing something wrong, the trail boss load and the unique load both keyholed. I also tried 35grn of 3031 that seemed to work a bit better. I am using a savage bolt action with a 1-10 barrel.

Is a 1-10 barrel fast enough to stabilize that bullet?

I think so. The only idea that i have is that maybe the lead is shaving a bit when i seat the bullet. It does not cut very much though.

9 grains of Trailboss will give you somewhere around 1000fps in a 308. 9.5 is my subsonic silencer load with a 200 grain cast. I don't have any problems getting it to stabilize at that speed in a 1:10 barrel.

Thanks, Time to try 9.5. What barrel length are you running?

Are you flaring the case necks before seating?
They shouldn't be cutting at all during that process.

Savage Hog Hunter + 8" of silencer. Hog Hunter is 18"-20 ish.

Jobot, I`ve loaded extensively the Lee C309-200-R for a Ruger STI (16.5" bbl with 1:10" twist) pushing it from 1,200 fps to close to 2,000 fps.
Best results, regardless of powder, came at around 1,600 fps. Fast pistol powders (Red Dot, Unique, Trail Boss) never worked for me; I got big groups and, with Red Dot, keyholing. Only with Red Dot, never understood why.
Slow Pistol powders or fast Rifle powders work great. About 20 grs of AA #9; IMR 4227 or AA5744 will put you around 1,500 fps.
Good luck

Tried that boolit in a couple .308s but obtained better accuracy with the RCBS 165SIL. On the other hand, 30.5 gr. of IMR4895 under the that same 200 gr. Lee gets just over 1900 fps in my K31 with sub-2 MOA iron sight accuracy...off sandbags, of course.

I am not, Maybe it is time to get a universal flaring die. It should not make it keyhole though. Right?

No kidding, that is the same rifle I am running.

it shouldn't make it key hole.
key holing is from the boolit not spinning fast enough.
it's either skidding the rifling [too soft, or punched too hard at the start], or doesn't have enough diameter.

Exactly what Run said!

I would advise you to look into the RCBS neck expander dies. That way you can control the amount of neck tension for the size of bullet you are shooting and for the brass you shoot.

I found that Win brass to be fairly thin and would have to drop down the size of expander one size to use it. You will find that Federal brass "usually" will have the thickest neck wall. You want that brass to fill that neck of the chamber. It's a poor man's version of turning the neck on brass for a tight neck chambering.

Now I am thinking my alloy is too soft, this same bullet seems to shoot ok in my 300blk using 4198 but no other powder.

It shoots well for me in a 1:12" at 1,700 fps.
