I loaded 9 rounds each of 6.3 ,7.5 and 8.5 grains of PB with Rem71/2 primers, Hornady gas checks and LLA. Seated the bullets to 2.160" LOA for the 14" TC. I shot them in groups of 3. The first two groups were OK but NOT what I had hoped for. The 7.5 grain load was the best for 3- 3shot groups, averaging just over an inch(7x scope & sand bags) at 50 yards. There was a lot of "charcoal" in the bore when I cleaned it. I did NOT find any lead though. NO lube "star" on the muzzle either. My Lyman book says the 8.5 load is a 2000 fps load. It seems a bit milder in recoil. A few more trips to verify accuracy and I'll risk my chrono to find out.

I like 8.5 of SR-7625 with a 45 grain bullet in my 223. It delivers 2234fps in a 22" barrel.

hey john, I am trying to use the powders I have . That stuff is going up in cost as fast as gasoline! Did you ever try the Jacketed bullet powders with cast in the .223? I am using a linotype bullet, gas checked and LLA. I was considering using the LOWEST powder charges for J words with them. If for no other reason to see if that would work.!! I have some imr4198 ,3031, Varget and 4320 to use up.
Or maybe I should quit thinking!
