I was thinking I need to make a slug to slug my barrel of my pistol. I have some stick on ww and thought I had read that they were pure lead but wanted to make sure before I tried to drive one. Also would it be beneficial to size the slug before I drive it?

That has been my understanding as well. I used fishing weights.

Most stick on WW are pure lead. Don't size it.

I make slugs for slugging a barrel by pouring pure lead into a fired case. OF course the case is ruined and I crush it when I'm done, but the result is a tapered slug that is a few thousandths over groove diameter. Go ahead and pour several while you're at it so you don't feel too bad about sacrificing a case.

Stick on wheel weight are nearly pure lead, they are plenty soft enough. They work great for pound casting. That's what I've used for my last 3 pound casts.

Yep stick on alloy will work, and don't size the slug bullet prior to slugging. Even the hardest bullet lead is softer than barrel steel and you could use any bullet alloy, if you're careful starting the slug into the barrel. Normally, I'll use soft lead just for the ease of slugging. I too make my handgun slugs using an empty case of the appropriate caliber, perfect size and tapered. I use am impact bullet puller to remove the slug from the case and they have worked quite well for me...

Awesome thanks everyone! I'm going with the pour in the case idea.
