Inaccurate hardness?

They say Brinell 12 on the box, but I can't even dent them with my thumbnail. Do you think they could be harder than 12?

depends on how they got there.
12 would be @ 2% tin and 3% antimony.
the tin would give you a false thumbnail test.

More important than hardness is bullet fit to your barrel, I like to be .002" over bore DA.
