No, not calling anyone out. It has just come to my realization of what a fine upstanding group there is here. All full of unquestionable truth and veracity. That being said, IF there is anyone who may venture into this forum who may have a slight problem of staying close to the truth, I'd like to see your best lies!

I'm not sure, does this count as a lie?

If you do ever have to say it about an individual, it will carry more weight than it does for those Who trot it out like a symptom of coprolalia. I'm not sure that being disagreed with counts as involuntary, though.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coprolalia

I have occasionally seen people reporting technological results that I considered doubtful or even very doubtful. Leaving politics aside though, it has never been anything comparable with Youtube. I have seen things done there that I am convinced were faked, and highly dangerous. Maybe ten try such ventures for every one that doesn't end up deterred from posting it by missing body parts or a sense of shame.

"No, dear. That dress doesn't make your hips look big."
.
You even had the good grace to say "hips".

I like the ones that really mean the opposite, like "My wife doesn't understand me." The standard British parliamentary announcement for a politician who has been caught bending is that he has decided to spend more time with his family. I remember one case which involved a flamboyant sex scandal, and a newspaper said he had resigned in order to spend less time with his family.

You ain't going to believe this, but... There I was, I believe near to 1953 or so. I'd been tracking the nearly extinct green crested Siberian jackalope for five days (a nice one in its prime looked to be close to six pounds). It was getting dark, the wind was blowing 30 mph from the left with 50 mph gust from the right/front, suddenly a shot rang out! My busty guide, Dally Pardon took a wild shot at the bunny. Due to the intense cold, she couldn't cycle her .416 Rigby Ackley Improved. The jackalope sensed her fear and attacked immediately. Head down with antlers ankle high it sprinted over the snow at incredible speed. As Guide Pardon screamed for help I steadied my trusty Webley-Vickers 50/80 and carefully calculated the 1487 yard shot. With a quarter ounce of pressure on the 50/80's trigger a 680 grain paper patched, steel cored, powder coated, precision handloaded boolit left the muzzle at 6173 feet per second. Like a lazer (which was not yet invented) the boolit flew straight. The jackalope had met his match when the light for caliber boolit grazed his nape, rendering him ... I've got company, will have to finish the story later.

Watched Fox News for a few minutes this AM and found it to be a totally different reality from everything else I'm reading and hearing. Bill Bennett thinks that things would settle down and move forward once all Trump's cabinet positions are filled. Don't think so.

It is amateur night at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue! - My worry is that DPRK or Iran likely will exploit the state of confusion in the Trump Administration to start something within the next 60-90 days. We are the closest we have been to nuclear war since the Cuban Missile Crisis while be are being governed by clowns!

Unless Trump stops campaigning and begins some serious OJT, listening to and sorting out the flood of intelligence out there, Russia will quickly take advantage of any distraction by DPRK or Iran, actively encouraging their mischief, while China will likely agitate in the China Sea and threraten Taiwan, then Trump in a fit of confused anger, total geopolitical ignorance and lunacy will throw the football and start WW3…

I was lowering heavy bricks using a pulley and a rope with a bucket tied on the end. Standing on the ground, the pulley and the bucket were 3 floors up. Someone thru weight in the bucket that was more than my weight.

Holding on to the rope, I was jerked off the ground and impacted the falling bucket 1/2 way up, tearing off my right ear. Dazed but still able to hold on, my fingers were pulled thru the pulley when I reached the top, breaking most of them.

When the bucket hit the ground it broke, spilling the contents. Loosing so much weight, I was a lot heavier than the bucket and fell rapidly. I impacted the bucket on the way down, tearing off my left ear.

I continued to fall and landed on the pile of bricks breaking both legs. For some reason I let go of the rope and the empty bucket fell 3 stories, landing on my head and giving me 2 black eyes....

I'm going to be a few minutes late for Church tonight...

Used aluminum boat for sale, has one small leak. $500 O.B.O

Every time you shoot a doe, 3 Boone and Crocket bucks crawl out of the ground.

Mandatory Antler Point Restrictions combined with unlimited doe tags makes hunters happy and increases the deer hunting enjoyment of the majority of folks. There is no such thing as high grading, it is a myth created by those who only want to shoot little baby bucks.

The laws of physics do not apply in Arizona or Arkansas, but them same laws apply double in Tennessee.

You simply cannot catch a fish on a lure that costs less than 8 dollars.

It's for the children.

It's the spoons fault that Rosie is fat and it's the microphones fault that Ashley Judd and Madonna sound bat**** crazy.

It's the Russians fault.

Criminals are not the issue, guns are.

Only virgins wear white wedding dresses.

If you add a few thousandths to the neck on a 308WIN case you can get better performance than a standard 30-06.

If you twist a bullet too fast you will tear a hole in the space time continuum.

Longer barrels are more accurate (must be because the muzzle is closer to the target eh).

The second biggest fish I've caught was a sturgeon. I couldn't get it to a scale, but I did take a picture of it. The picture weighed seventeen lbs, 3 ounces. I tried to post the picture so you would believe me, but I got an error message saying the file size was too large. The biggest fish I've caught was a blue gill that towed my boat around the lake for six days.

Gary "

Actually that's exactly the way it was for me. The first leg was downhill to the halfway mark then steeply uphill. same on the way back steep downhill then steep uphill. In the dead of winter with ice several inches thick it was often harder to make my way downhill without falling than uphill. Three miles sounds about right, it may have been further. Feral dog packs were an occasional hazard.

"The bullet rises after it leaves the muzzle."
It drops in relation to the bore line but in fact leaves the muzzle on an upwards angle in relation to the line of the sights.

At anything but point blank the bullet passes through the sight line twice before dropping below the line of sight.

If fired exactly parallel (not really possible due to the curvature of the earth) to the ground the bullet will strike the ground in exactly the same length of time as a bullet dropped from the same height as the bore line.

I expect most of us understand that the bullet rises only in relation to the line of sight, but I've been surprised over the years at how many people have tried to explain to me how the bullet actually rises against gravity somehow, something about the spin makes it rise like a helicopter until it slows down and drops. I wish I could get some of those magic bullets.

My favorite I think is how often I hear or read that someone's off the shelf M4 clone shoots "minute-of-angle" with any old bulk FMJ.

I had this very thing demonstrated in physics in college. The Prof hung a can on an electromagnet and pointed a horizontal pipe directly at it. He blew a marble thru the pipe and a switch on the end of the pipe released the can.

Within reason, distance or ball speed did not matter. The ball hit the can every time...

" something about the spin makes it rise like a helicopter until it slows down and drops. I wish I could get some of those magic bullets."

Airsoft BBs fired from a gun that has a "Hopup" to induce back spin on the BB will create a tiny area of vacuum towards the top of the spinning ball. The vacuum generally just reduces how fast the ball will drop but if strong enough can cause the ball to rise above the bore line.
Its called the Bernoulli principle.
The opposite effect is seen when an unpatched round ball is fired from a smoothbore. In that case the ball takes on a under spin, the resulting vacuum greatly reducing the range the ball can travel.

I know this thread is about great lies, but that's a fascinating bit of truthful information. I was reminded of golf so looked it up to see that golf balls follow the same principle. I know real bullets don't actually rise but I can see how someone vaguely familiar with the Bernoulli effect in golf could make that assumption. While still not true, maybe it's not really as absurd as it sounds.

Multigunner

The same effect is responsible for "spin drift". In the case of modern rifle bullets the vacuum forms near the bullet base and pulls the rear of the bullet out of its normal line of flight.

As the bullet looses velocity its speed of rotation remains high so the effect becomes greatest at longer ranges.

Learned of this fact in 10th grade physical science class. Our teacher demonstrated that gravity pulls the same whether you are standing still or traveling horizontally with his bow and arrow. I then proceeded to go engineering school and got even a better understanding of it. It frustrates me that so many people think they know the dynamics of bullets when many have no clue.

For those that still think the bullet rises, what happens if you turn the gun upside down, does it curve the other way?
