And if memory serves, quite a while back Larry Gibson posted up a thread on how to make work better (fatter). Of course now that I need it, I can't find it. I messaged Larry but no response yet. Anybody direct me to the thread? My search-fu isn't for squat.

Yea, .304 on the body. Didn't seem to me that tin would do it, though I haven't tried it yet. Haven't done anything yet except pout.

Short of paper patching it up to size sounds like Lyman need to replace that one . Even beagling it ain't gonna work if dropping at .304

I was just advising someone the other night that Lyman was the 'Go to' mold for many of us here long ago. Sadly, Lyman has fallen way behind in mold sales, due to the very problem you mention.

The very first LEE custom group buy I participated in was for a Lyman #311041. I can't even recall who honcho'd the buy. But that mold is a dandy and drops all 6 cavities plus or minus .5 of a grain. If I ever (Heaven forbid) have to replace it, I'll go with NOE.

Larry recommends the Lyman #2 alloy that Lyman moulds are designed to cast to spec with. WW casts a little smaller but in a .30 cal. we're talking maybe a thou. R5R said it "...but even black magic and a mold stretcher ain't gonna get 304 anywhere near 310."

Sure that you're talking about the body bands and not the nose section of the boolit?

the 041 is only supposed to make about 300-301 on the nose.
