Patiently awaiting my Encore barrel from MGM in .45-70. I have recently been assured by a few members that a 1:14 twist will work fine for cast bullets. I had a massive brain fart upon ordering the barrel however and realized that I did not send a dummy round for a custom chamber. I plan on using the 459-500-3R to start and I fear that the bullet length will be incompatible with the throat of the barrel. That leads to three questions:

1. Have you encountered this problem with BPCR replicas or production .45-70 rifles ever?

2. Will a deeply seated bullet have any pressure issues for smokeless loads? (I understand that heavy compression is the norm for BP)

3. What are your experiences with the 459-500-3R mold?

I would wait until I had the barrel in hand before I done or worried anything about the throat.

Yes, probably better to wait...

The boolit should work if harder. Fellas shooting BPCR and the boolit found they slumped with 20-1 alloy. I didn't have any luck either.
My BFR has a 1 in 14" twist and is the most accurate 45-70 I ever shot. I wish my Browning BPCR had a faster rate.
Only problem with a short barrel is powder choice, only 4759 works in mine.

Right, I also have a 15" .45-70 Encore Pistol barrel with a 1-14 twist as well. They are picky with powder type otherwise they lead up and leave a lot of crud behind. RL7 leaves the cleanest bore with decent accuracy to me. I would try 4759 if it still was produced. 5744 just leaves an annoying bed of unburnt powder and leading while with Heavier bullets, Unique leaves a nice extruded lead ring in the throat and some horrible leading.

I used a regular chamber reamer on a 45-70 stub barrel. No throating, it shoots that Lee 500gr fine.
