Been fooling around with the hornet again. Only mold i ever had in .22 was a old 225415, and i got it shooting pretty decent, over time. I just bought a 225438, and using the same accuracy loads that i worked up for the 225415, the 225438 shoots them sooooooo much better! tighter groups, and not so many fliers. shot a 10 shot group this morning @ 50 yards that measured .980, with 9 of them in .535. Pretty happy with this, considering the boolit launcher is a old stevens 322 with 10 dollar 4x scope! BTW, load was h-4227,and cci-500 primers, 225438 boolit, (acww alloy) with felix lube.

Nice. You've probably heard - Hodgdon doesn't think we need two versions of 4227 and is dropping H4227 - some say they have simply relabeled H4227 as IMR 4227 and really dropped the IMR version. I don't know what is true but hopefully your load will work just as well with the current IMR offering.

Hey, don't knock the old Stevens. The best shooting I've done out of 3 Hornets so far is with.......you guessed it. An old ugly Stevens 322 with a $10 4X 22 scope. Could hit a nickel at a hundred about 2x out of 3 if the shooter could. Wish I still had it but the kid needed it. Needed? Well, he's got it. Regards, Woody

So you must know what im up against!!! It has a throat,a mile long. But, because it is such a pain to load single shot, i must load to clip O.A.L., Plus, the friggen forearm band bedding!!!! thats why i like to shoot this ol gun, nothing but challenges! I know this ol gun will shoot sierra 45 hornet bullets inside of an inch @ 100, and am trying to do it with cast. The fliers are the only thing keeping me from accomplishing this. As good as it can shoot, if i shoot straight lyno boolits in it, it cant shoot groups any better than 12 inches!!! Thats why im foolin with cast boolits, theres so many things to learn, that ill never get to the bottom of it.

I say that as well. IMR 4227 is H4227 with graphite added.

Really good cast bullet powder.

I read that IMR is what is being used and the H-4227 was made in Australia and is not being used anymore since IMR was bought out.I think the IMR version is made in Canada.
