Hi guys: Dunno if the photo uploaded, but if so, does anyone recognize the monster wadcutter on the right? It weighs over 1100 grains and is .728. The other bullets, from left, are a .458 285-grain JSP, a .58 Pritchett from friend Buckshot, an NEI No. 399 835-grain .732 and the mystery slug.

...............Does it mike correctly for a 12 bore? Whatta honker. I'm sure glad I don't have to shoot something like that!

............Jeez! You STILL have those Pritchits? Didn't I send those up to you 4-5 years ago to SHOOT!? I know I have a hard time coming up with roun-tuit's, but sheesh :D

They're gonna rot before too much longer.

Rick, those Pritchetts were just so pretty I couldn't shoot them all up, so I still have four or five around to admire.
I got a batch of the NEIs and two of the monster mystery slugs when I bought a used .72 Pedersoli Kodiak double several years ago. If I recall correctly, I stepped the powder back to 120 grains of Fg when test firing one of the monsters. Recoil was authoritative.
I don't think it is from an NEI mold.

............I'd have liked to have seen you shoot that thing. Watching my buddy with a rifled M1842 while shooting those 624gr Minie's was neat, and I think it was a 60gr charge or such.

Did you eve manage to fire any over a chronograph? I shot my MkIV 577-450 once with 20 rounds of ammo loaded with BP. It was the Lee 450gr paper patched over 110grs of 2Fg Goex. I'm looking for the guy who said BP was more of a shove then anyhting else. I'm going to perform a bayonet charge upon him. Better yet, have HIM shoot 20 rounds. :D

Rick, I do have chrono data somewhere on the .72 with the roundballs and the NEI cotton spool. I did not record the one shot with the monster mystery slug.
I agree that the Martini fat boy can be punishing with BP, but the Martini is so muzzle-light that I think it would hurt even chambered in .45-70.
The Kodiaks, especially the .72, have that wonderful muzzle-heaviness that all double rifles possess, but in spades. This makes them pleasant to shoot with stiff charges and heavy pills. I would much rather fire 20 rounds of 120/Monster Mystery Slug from a Kodiak .72 than 110/500 from a Martini.

Please tell me more about the .72 Kodiak double. I always wanted one for deer hunting during muzzle loading season.

2.1:
Here's part of a post I made a year ago on the AR board regarding these rifles.
By the way, the .72 is built like a tank, and a Kodiak user I spoke with who took his to Africa had some bedding work done in the breech/tang area to keep from splitting his stock with the heavy loads.

I have had Kodiaks in .58 and .72 -- both a lot of fun, but I miss the .72 the most. I found a couple of round ball targets fired over the Oehler chronograph with the .72. Hate to disappoint, but shooting a patched 540-grain .715 round ball over 120 grains Goex Fg and using an RWS musket cap (I put musket nipples on), I show a high of 1,032, low of 996 for an average of 1,009 fps.

Just found some more chronograph notes in the range notebook. The .72 Kodiak gave 880 fps with 120 grains Goex Fg and 1,050 fps with Goex FFg and musket caps shooting an 840-grain conical -- the classic paradox cotton-spool pill, probably from an NEI mould. I also show an average of 1,246 fps with the 540 grain round ball over 150 grains Goex Fg. I have a target showing the single shot I took with that 840-grain conical over 150 grains Goex Fg, but no chrono reading.
By the way, I see notes on the .58 Kodiak showing a .570 Hornady patched round ball over 120 grains Goex FFg and a Remington cap giving an average of 1,651, with an SD of 26.
