The F in Pentagon mark would suggest a German made barrel for a rifle not exceeding 7.5 joules muzzle energy.

I was examining the markings on my S&W 78g and was surprised to find that same F inside a pentagram deeply stamped just behind the trigger pivot pin on the left side of the frame.

I vaguely remember that when the 78g first came out a review in the American Rifleman journal mentioned some connection between S&W and the Italian firm Fiocchi . At least they claimed that the bore of the 78g was optimized for Fiocchi pellets and were less accurate with other makes.
IIRC the frames were imported, don't remember from what country, but I think it was in South America.

Could be the F marking was put on for European sales, if not added later on by a European importer.

PS to above

The photos of this 78g on an auction site show the same F in Pentagon marking.

Only good pictures of the mark are close ups near the bottom of the page.

It looks like a barrel off a pneumatic. The arrow is often a "government property" mark but in this case might be to ensure things line up.

The Beeman Kodiak X2 in Nickel finish with interchangeable .177 and .22 barrels has barrels that look just like this.

Ran across a listing for one on Ebay just now.

The F marking in Pentagon is likely added just incase the guns are shipped to Germany, or perhaps the barrels were made in Germany.
If it were a Pneumatic or gas gun barrel it would have a transfer port in the underside. The Kodiak is a break barrel.

Just pure luck I spotted the Kodiak on ebay. I had not even had the barrel here in mind.
I had at first thought the barrel might be for a PCP or CO2 rifle because the blind hole for the barrel locking screw or whatever they use looked very much like the transfer port of a CO2 barrel.

The F in Pentagon is unique for our german air guns. Like being said, it indicates that the muzzle erngy is less than 7,5 Joules of Energy. Every Airgun over that limit ist not marked with that F (if legally bought, many people like to convert their spring piston airguns back to original power, because the springs require no permission to buy and are not registrated) is treated like any other firearm here in Germany.
