Well thank the animal rights groups for this. Most livestock operations are being greatly hindered by new regulations. Inspectors need to be present when feed is mixed, no stock prods, just rattle paddles, new restrictions on spreading wastes, among others. My brother is getting out of the hog finishing barn he has due to these new regulations and restrictions. You will soon be seeing this with chicken and beef also due to these changes. Its time for all pigs to step up for the cause

The shortage is in FROZEN pork bellies, not bacon. Frozen pork bellies are excess that they can't sell to bacon makers. No bacon shortage yet! Whoever said turkey bacon should be severally reprimanded. That stuff isn't fit to eat. Perhaps our new President can get his Dept of Agriculture to change the rules so that farmers can make a decent living producing food.

They should have never let this sale happen. Certain industries should not be for sale to foreign countries. Anything food related should be at the top of the list.

This is much to do about nothing. Wasn't it the UK that had a shortage a few years back? I love bacon. But it's used on way to many things these days.

For Thanksgiving I smoke a turkey breast that's wrapped in bacon. Slit the skin, pack it w/ bacon and hold it in place w/ toothpicks if need be. I can't go back to eating bland turkey anymore. I've been known to inject the breast w/ "beer and butter" on occasion.
