Made about 75 pounds of COWW ingots! I got probably another 20 pounds stick on's that I just need to find a different mould for.

I was pretty careful to keep the temp around 650°F so none of the zinc ww's should have gotten mixed in, but I can get sulfur pretty easily to flux any zinc that got in.

Any who, just posting my progress!

They're not the cleanest, but my locale of employment is next door to cabinet makers, so I'll have plenty of flux, and we also have A LOT of sulfur here that comes along with the oil here, so flux will be no issue!

Let's hope you never need any Sulphur.

Right? I feel I kept a pretty good eye on the pot, with the thermometer, and sorting... Also my Coleman camp stove had a hard time melting 20 pounds lead at a time, so it would have been hard pressed to get the extra 100 degrees or so to melt zinc.

If anything was stubborn at all with melting it got scooped right out with the clips

Feels good, doesn't it?

After I got done coughing for 10 minutes yeah.

Note: don't cover the pot with nasty wheel weights, and some had a rubbery coating. Taking that lid off about killed me! Lol

It for sure was! Not sure if my nose is stained with the smell, or even my proximity to the house the stench got in, but I can still smell it!

Thanks, honestly I was a little concerned about how they looked! A 6 muffin muffin tin all full of lead is HEAVY lol!

I did a fair share of sorting, mainly to get the zinc ones and stick on ones out (only saw one marked zn, but plenty of iron ones!)

I've really like using saw dust, then a final flux with bees wax/ or plain parffin wax.
Cleans the lead well, carfull of the flair up from the wax!
Good jod!

When you are out and about keep an eye out for a cast iron pot and turkey fryer, garage sale, thrift stores. Cheap and work well!

I bought Cheap ceramic coated pot, worked pretty well.

I do need to upgrade from the 70 year old Coleman camp stove

I have ingot envy. I should go out to the range and scoop some more lead before it gets too cold. Nice Job.

A good face mask with a charcoal filter is NOT just for sissies. No one will revoke your man card for using one.

Hard to fit one under my face shield. 3m (speedglas) makes a special backpack filter though...

Protect the lungs or the baby face...

I fill the muffin pan only half full, the ingots fit my pot better that way.

It's all good. That bucket I got cost me 40 bucks. Ends up being .50/lb

I do have a standing order with the three tire shops. One gets a bucket every other month, one gets about 5 buckets a month

Cast for 9mm, 45acp, 45lc, ak47, and 308.
Right now still for the best 30 caliber bullet that will operate my AR10, probably going to get a custom mold of the 168 grain boat tail design,

OP-Good job. My next smelt session will NOT involve sorting. I'm getting convinced COWW are way harder than needed for handgun cast, so I'm just gunna fill my dutch oven pot & smelt away, nice & slow. I'm not seeing a large % of SOWW, and my last batch used 50/50 CWW/SWW anyway. Smacked these with a hammer & they were tough, no leading issues with .44 mag nor 45ACP!

For reference I'll cast some 1"-2" discs for the "compression test" for hardness comparing to pure lead.

Hmmm, not going for a GC'd rifle design?

Walstr, tried a couple of GC designs, can't find any that will give the accuracy, BTW, not looking for "match" accuracy, but at least hit close enough for hunting, have tried 5 different combinations of projectile and powder, no good so far, going to Powder coat them, we will see how it goes
