View Full Version : Taking Orders for the Lee Six-Cavity BD45CM

I lifted this from the other board to get it posted here:

Fellas, I think we have enough interest to start collecting orders for the BD45CM, and we may get there with our version of the 45-230 CM as well. Harley45 is gonna handle the original BD remake; I'll do the other two. Price will be $56, including shipping, and personal checks are fine. l won't cash checks until the order goes to Lee, anyone with a change of heart before the order goes gets their check returned or destroyed.

Pictures are available at http://www.gilanet.com/tundraj/BD45_Molds/ . The picture labeled BD/RCBS No Crimp Groove is now officially known as the BD45CMBB, the same design with a flat base is the BD45CM. Give me your preference regarding bevel or flat base when you send the check, and bevel base guys let me know if you want to jump to the flat base if it looks like we won't make the numbers with the bevel base. If you don't have a preference on the base, PLEASE choose the bevel base - the flat base will make the numbers on its own, and the bevel base fans need help! Our version of the 45-230 CM is posted at the link above and named simply RCBS. The RCBS version is an oustanding revolter and pistol boolit; ours will be as close to the original as Lee can make it and will offer six-cavity production rates. Checks and orders received will be posted using the zip code SOP.

Send orders to:

Just looking at the picture I would say the the BD 45 CM is just like the RCBS bullet BUT equal width bands and a crimp groove?????? :?:

AnthonyB

Gregg, I think the posted picture is the base and lube groove of the BD45ACP with the RCBS nose and a small dirt groove to help remove fouling. A lot of folks are waiting for Harley45's re-run of the original BD, but this design gives up nothing significant in meplat size and the RCBS nose is actually larger than the BD. The RCBS boolit has worked perfectly in every pistol I have tried; I can't say the same for the BD45ACP as cut by Lee. Tony

The BD45CM above has no crimp groove. It is the RCBS CM nose on the BD base.

...Gentlemen: This looks to me as if it would weigh a little more than the RCBS CM. Has anyone an educated guess what it would weigh cast of WW?
...Thanks in advance.

Fellas, we are at 14 when Gregg's check makes it in, and Sean's check is still out there in postal limbo somewhere. We seem to have hit the "middle of the order lull" and will have to wait for the numbers to creep up before we get all the last minute orders. There is a lot of interest on the 311440, and I have promised to honcho that order once the BD45CM is complete. I would try to run both, but we have a house closing and move coming up at the end of this month that makes two orders just too complicated. Only 11 more BD45CM orders required....
Anyone straddling the fence on this order should e-mail me and I'll send samples of the RCBS 45-230CM. The Lee custom is really nothing more than the BD base with the RCBS nose and no crimp groove; you could also consider it as the RCBS with the crimp groove removed and a different lube groove.
I'm no expert on anything other than Pentagon staff work, but consider this to be the best all-around 45 ACP boolit ever produced. The original BD45ACP is very good, but may require alterations for reliable feeding and slide lock functioning in some pistols. This one gives up very little in meplat size for easier feeding and 100% slide lock function in the five 1911s I have tested. All you hardcore original BD45ACP fans should know that BD was one of the first to send a check. I can't speak for BD, but I think the original design is highly specialized while this one is for much more general use. You shouldn't have to tune your pistol for this one to function reliably.
Of course, I may be full of crap and the design could be ***** once you get the mould, but I think all takers will be happy.

Tony,
There is a possibility I may try to get in on this one. My neighbor and good friend, ace boolit caster JimL has some 230 BDs coming so we can test them. I was wanting the original BD design and we were going to test for functioning, accuracy and such. But the BDs have not yet arrived so I am still sitting on the fence. (and my butt is getting real sore) My thought was, if there were any funtioning problems in any of our guns due to the size of the nose or meplat of the BD, then I would order your modified BD design. If there were no problems, then I was going to wait for another group buy on the original. If you are willing to send me a few samples of the RCBS 230 CM, we could do some comparisons and try to make a decision.

Hardcast, I'll send samples of both if you want; you pay postage only. Email an address and I'll get some out. Send me the postage once they arrive. The offer is open to anyone. Tony

Tony,
When I tried to e-mail you I got this :

"Sorry! That user has specified that they do not wish to receive emails. If you still wish to send an email to this user, please contact the administrator and they may be able to help."

Apparently there are some glitches to work out yet. I tried my own profile and got the same results.

E-mail sent. I went to my user CP and clicked on options. Apparently they were lost when the changeover was made. I think mine is fixed now.

Tony, I see that I am still the only one in for the 45-230CM so far. If it helps to make the numbers change me to 2 of the BD45CM. I can either use it or hold it for someone who wants one after the order is placed. I am sort of on the front end of experience and wanted to compare, but it is no big deal.

John, you and I are the only ones interested in the RCBS clone so far. I may come back in a few months and try to run that one again - I think more people would be interested if we didn't have so many custom orders going in at the same time. Tony

Fellas, we just bought a house and I am in paint/decorate/whatever the wife wants mode. We will begin moving the first part of June, and I don't want to worry about this order while that is going on. So, the absolute last day your check will get a BD45CM delivered to your door for $56 is 1 June. I will place the order on 2 June and will buy enough extras to make up the required number. My extra moulds will be available to all you guys who wish you had ordered one for $66 - the profits will go toward a loading bench in the new house.
There are two more orders on the way. Here is the count as of 9 May:

You have to have the proper tools to do the job right. I scored a delta miter saw (with slide), Folding saw utility table, brad nailer(with compresser) and Dewalt 1/2 drill during the kitchen remodel.

Some tools get used more than others ofcourse. If you are into power tools, the table saw seems to be about as handy a thing as there is. Speaking of power tools, last week my disc sander conked out. I took it apart and found a broken wire. Replaced such and was so proud of myself until I turned it on and it still didnt work. It's about a 30 year old Craftsman and Sears wanted a minimum of $69 to fix it. Thanks to some money I ratholed while at Wendover Nv this past week,I'm off to go disc sander shopping in a few minutes.

AnthonyB
05-09-2005, 04:42 PM
Ray, I already have the table saw, and agree that it is about the most useful tool in the garage. It is especially valuable for guys like me who can't cut a straight line with a circular saw. Tony

StarMetal

Carpetman is absolutely right about that tablesaw. He's right about some tools will get used more then others. I have a tablesaw, a jointer, a biscuit cutter, a random orbit disk sander, couple routers, chopsaw, sabre saw, sawsall, drill press, beltsander, hammerdrill, Bostich finish air nailer, and various wood working hand tools. My most used is the table saw. I make cabinets is why I have some of the stuff and alot of the other stuff comes from when I use to do finish trim carpentry for a living. I recently just got a wet tile cutter as my wife had decided she wanted ceramic tile in a few rooms and it was cheaper to own it then to rent it for the amount of work I had to do.

If you haven't left yet I can highly reccomend a Porter Cable radom orbit disk sander and I got the one with the velcros pad so I can change sanding pads fast and reuse them. Comes with a dust collector too.

Starmetal---Joe thanks for the tip. Too late,I had already left. I bought a Hitachi from Lowes. It was their best--has 5 year warantee. It is actually a disc grinder, all I had to do was remove the guard and put my old sanding backer plate on and a sanding disc. Heavy as heck, but seems to do the job.
