It seems that every year my computer begins to act up or quit altogether. It seems that the condition peaks just when I want to get the Taxes done and want to load Turbotax. I am getting pop ups from a site that claims to be bit defender and I am pretty sure we have about three months left on our bitdefender sub. We do use bitdefender and it does seem to work but we can't play any games other than the ones that came in the software. It won't let us. Then there is the redirect page I get when signing on here which is unnerving. And a pornography site got ahold of our Favorites and we can't get rid of it. So I think the machine is getting ready to balk when I try to do taxes. I hate doing the taxes. I do not mind paying my fair share and indeed we have been in an extremely low tax brackett for a number of years due to lower income and having three adopted kids running around. I do hate the feeling of trying to do the paperwork/ computerwork properly knowing full well that the government has put traps here and there to trip me up. I was trapped in the 2010 tax year and it was 18 months to get sorted out. I had to call my Senator and there were offers and counteroffers before an ombudsman stepped in and settled things. We had to forfeit a $700 fine for sloppy record keeping basically, We could not come up with check copies from transactions 10 years old, The credit union only keeps them for 7 . But that was way better than loosing a $7000 refund. Then the kicker was , a year later we got a check for the penalty refunded to us saying we had been improperly fined. Then We got a 1099 for the refund amount, It was of course taxable. I did make a pretty good mistake in figuring my return, me and Turbotax. I was happy to fix the mistake. I hated getting slapped so hard for making a mistake and thought they tried to give really excessive punishment in the amount they wanted. So I hate the process and want to get it over with and hope my computer will co-operate.

If your computer behaves like you describe (redirecting to websites, porn site in favorites that you can't get rid off) I wouldn't even try to do tax return on it ! It's most likely infected with malware and God knows who's going to be reading your personal info from tax return in that case. Take it to reputable service company to be checked for viruses.

Sounds like it is infected. I would not want Any personal info on that computer. Either take to computer expert or the range. See what does as a target. LOL.

Yeah, tax information is easy for people to scrape the information off of and do bad things. I would not trust that machine to do your taxes on. There are some bootable USB drives, and CDROMs that are secured for browsing, paperwork, and stuff like that. If interested, PM me and I will help you out.
