I own a russian model 56 SKS and measured twist rate today. Turns out to be 11.5". Checked on the net for specs for this model without luck. Anybody here owns one of these ? If so, what is your twist rate ?
Thanks

I was under the impression that a 56 would be a Chinese SKS.

In 1956 China was making the SKS's with all Russian parts as I understand it. Perhaps that may be part of the confusion if it's a real 1956 build.

huh, I didn't know that, by the way, do you know how to tell what year my gun was made or a link to a sight that could help? it mas made in the norinco factory, so that may help.

thing is I can't find twist rate specs for this model anywhere on the net. I was really surprised to find a 11.5" twist cause nowhere had anyone mentioned anything close to this.
I checked again using another method; turns out to be 1:10 twist rate.
Thanks to all for your help.

see how many twists a cleaning jag makes, and say you have a 20 inch barrel divide 20 by num. of twists then multiply that by 12. that should get you there or at least close depending on how accurately u are able to keep track of how many twists.

Rebel,
I did that and keep coming back with 1:10.

does that sound right to you? and also to the other guy, I wasn't able to figure out the year, but I know it was a late model, and that norinco was started in 1980 so it must be around that, one of the series of numbers does have a slightly larger "80" so maybe that's when it was made. I think they were made till 84 or so
