I need help identifying two moulds.

Ideal 308334 guesstimating 190 gr. This is a long point nose boolit.

Ideal 308244 guesstimating 80 gr. This is a little round nose boolit.

I bought these at the auction the other day. I have looked in castpics and can’t locate these numbers.

I am going to cast some of each and see what my WW+1% tin weighs.

Any help would be appreciated. :drinks:

xr650.

Lyman mould number 308244 is for the 7.65mm, (.30 Luger) cartridge. Listed as an 89 grain bullet, it is not the same bullet as 311245.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Sturf.
I just double checked the number on the littlun. It is definately 308244.
Where did you get your info?

The 308334 casts extremely well. I'll weigh a few when they cool and see how consistent I was.

Pretend to have an incredible memory. [smilie=1:

It helps to know that early Lyman .30 cal molds were "308" and later are all "311" with mostly the
same shapes.

Thanks Bill.
I checked castpics earlier and didn't find them.
I just went back and substituted 311 for 308 and found 334.
Still don't see 244.

xr650,

I have been shooting cast bullets in the .30 Luger for a long time, Lyman 308244 has been on my "Hope to Find" list for many years. The information on this mould is contained in the "Ideal Hand Book, Number 34, 2nd Edition, 1942".

What a co-inkydink. I just scanned this 30s or 40s Ideal listing last night.
Has regular and special order moulds.

The 308244 is a great little bullet in the .32 Long, and .32 Mag. It's in a "double". The other cavity is a 358242 125 grain. Sounds like Luger lover had that one./beagle

Dutchman,
Excellent info. Thanks a ton. That is one cool book you have there.
The 334 is said to work well in the .30 Springfield. Is this what I know as the 30-06?

The 224 is such a nice looking boolit I want to keep the mould. Even though I have no real use for it. May have to try it in the 06.
