I fired up the casting furnace this morning to cast up some bullets for a new to me 30 30 I just bought . I got my lee .309 150 gr mold and while I was digging through the tote I keep my molds in I came across a mold I forgot I had . its a 2 cav lee .311 100 gr 2 r mold that I used to shoot out of my 327 fed revolver . I thought maybe this would make a nice easy plinker round in the 30 30 so I casted up 60 of them just to try them out . there dropping a bit bigger than I want though at .312/.313 . I'm gonna try sizing them to .309 then pc them . anyone have experience with this bullet in a 30 30 ? some input and maybe some data would be helpful . ive also got a lee .314 90 gr swc mold which was my preferred bullet in 327 fed but I don't think that 1 would do well in a 30 30 .

you don't need to size them down that much.
310-311 is enough.

about 6-8grains of about any fast powder [unique on down] will most likely do what you want.

ok thanks for the input . I figured if I size them to .309 then after powder coat they'll be roughly .310/.311

Should work just fine for plinkers. One of my favorite 30-30 plinking rounds is the Lee TL314-90-SWC powder coated and sized all the way down to .310. Very accurate out of my Handi rifle over a few grains of TiteGroup or Unique. Gp
